Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women B.Com Review By Garima Shukla

Devki Devi Jain College, from where did I study Bachelor’s of Commerce few years back. It is one of the oldest colleges in Ludhiana established in 1971 by S.S Jain Girls Committee, in the memory of women educationist, Devi Devki Jain Ji. The college is affiliated from the Panjab University, one of the most prestigious and top universities in the India.

I've studied bachelor's of commerce in the college. They don't hold any entrance exam for it, but they do have a minimum eligibility criteria maybe it was minimum 70% passing marks in the 12th class to take admission. Yes, their courses fulfill the expectations as they claim. Definitely, the financial and accounting skills developed during the course helped me to get job.

Teachers are qualified, intelligent and knowledge one in the commerce department, because I don’t know precisely about other streams. For computer courses like BCA or others, they are also talented ones as I have heard from others. Additionally, teachers are competent there, so you don’t have to worry about that. Some are so proficient that they seem like memorised everything by heart. However, there was one exception, only one teacher of our department, she was lazy and disinterested in teaching. Nonetheless, I would recommend this college for studies because except one I mentioned all other teachers were very serious about our studies and made wholeheartedly efforts to provide best education along with regular tests after completion of chapter.

They didn't have any placement facilities. Although some institutions would visit from training point of view, to join their institutes to develop skills for good placement.

They didn't have any hostel facility, because all students were locals or belongs to Ludhiana city.

The college is very neat and clean and its garden area is very attractive, where the gardeners maintain it really well with bright or colorful flowers and patterns. However, washroom of this college were awful, I don’t know why they were so ignorant towards cleanliness of washrooms. Additionally, classes are airy and big but there were nearly 70 girls in our class which was kind of inconvenient specially in summer season. They could have divided the class into two sections, but they didn't. Additionally, the college has its computer labs, cosmetology department, library, ground, so it does have all essential infrastructure requirements in a humanities college. Their library is pretty well built and has different genres of books, which is impressive. I, along with my friends have spent good time in the library during free periods. Even, we can borrow some books from the library as well, if we don't want to buy a new one, in consideration for some security, which is returned after you bring the book back. However, for other books, there is no requirement of security, if you want it for 1 or 2 weeks.

The college has positive vibes in it and it has a room called as meditation room there, where directors or teachers offer prayers to Devki Devi Ji and her guru. Besides this, I’ve also mentioned about the garden in the centre which adds to its liveliness and beauty. Moving further, they are pretty strict in their rules and unlike other colleges in Ludhiana, they open or close college gates only at fixed times, and for early exit you have to take permission from teacher and then security guard would allow you to move out. And they are against using mobiles in classrooms while study time and in corridors, you can use it during free periods within low volume or privately which doesn't make any sense. However, their rules are favorable from security point of view of girls.
