Ramjas College B.Com Review By Jitesh Mamtora

Ramjas College is the best college in North Campus, DU. DU is known for cooperative and friendly teachers. However, this is not as true as it for our college. The societies of Ramjas are one of the best. The dramatics society Shunya is the best dramatic society of Delhi University. The college is over 100 years old now, so the still intact building looks a little old. As they say, never judge a book by its cover and therefore, if you avoid this college from its building, you might miss out on the fun it offers inside. It was a dream to be a part of Ramjas College DU, and I felt proud when I was referred to as Ramjasite in my group. The crowd of Ramjas is the best. Almost all DU colleges are known for the nooks, crannies, places where students can hang out. For Ramjasite, it was the 'Sutta Lane'. The college is not just the oldest but is profound for the history attached to it. Everyone is aware of the politics at DU. The college sends its participant in every election and more often celebrates the victory with great show and pomp. Ramjasites are the first people who support strikes if on unethical things. Many politicians have paved their career through Ramjas.

Academics are unquestionable at Ramjas DU. I want to talk about things that it offers along with academics. Not just the academics, but it's the extra-curricular activities of the college that has shaped my career in the best way. A boy who was so shy and afraid to have a conversation with strangers started participating in debates and drama after the 1st year. I left this college with a massive transformation in my personality.

The faculty were friendly & cooperative in all possibilities. Some professors themselves told us that they can attend the classes only if they feel like it. Thus, along with friendly, they were also the coolest that I have seen. From Economics to English, all the professors had the world of experience behind them. DU tradition and reputation are all alive because of the faculty that teach at all DU colleges. Most of the students of Ramjas have gone ahead and pursued MBA. The professors also helped us prepare for the competitive exams besides teaching us the vast syllabus of B.Com (Hons).

Not just commerce student's placement but placements overall of DU are below average. Many top companies visited at Ramjas campus. The salaries and job roles offered were below average, and it was like big companies offering amounts that small companies in general do. It was more about the roles that were offered. They weren't engaging or interesting either. The placement cell invited many companies, and for that, they should be commended. Maybe as students, our skills didn't command heavy roles for which those companies can pay higher salaries. The College degree of Ramjas is not enough to get desired placements.

Ramjas College Hostel has both boy's and girl's. WUS dispensary was hired to take care of the medical aspects of the hostel students. The rooms were furnished and renovated recently. I can't comment much as I have been to the boy's hostel just a couple of times.

Old college but with some modern infra from inside. The library and classrooms have turned digital. The college has a student’s activity centre with a prolific sound system and LCD projectors. The area is under the students, and one can discuss all group activities and all at the centre. The college has a founder statue on the front lawn, and there is one more lawn between the college buildings and hostel buildings. The college has installed a modern fitness centre with all the latest machines for exercise. A rehab centre was being built upon and must have been completed by now. The fitness centre also has aerobics and yoga rooms. The college three-storey canteen is more famous for its 'Sutta Lane' than the food that it offers. The college auditorium is enormous, but the college was planning to renovate it as the seat covers, and all have started coming out. The college gives utmost importance to sports, and sports like Archery, Judo, and Power-Lifting are the main games on the campus. Many students of these sports have represented India at domestic and international levels. There are also many hangout places nearby, making Ramjas College Campus one of the most happening campuses of North Delhi.

There were 7-8 active societies and Shunya (Dramatic) and RDS (Debating Society), of which I was an active part. RDS has become an institution where students are free to express their minds, and students from Ramjas have often participated in debates on national television. Every year after the budget, a debate event called Kapil Ratnu is organized, where students are asked to debate on the budget presented. Polemic was the annual competition of this society, and judges were among the prominent personalities like Rajat Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and cricketer Unmukt Chand in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years respectively. There's a lot more to grow as a person at Ramjas, and one can witness a change after being a part of this college for three years.
