Bhairab Ganguly College B.Sc Review By Souradipta Mukherjee

I chose Bhairab Ganguly College for my B.Sc Mathematics Honours in 2022 for a few reasons, which were the NAAC A grade (currently A+ graded), beautiful and large campus, and short distance from my home. I can proudly admit that it was my best decision taken. New students who want a balanced college life of studies and sports can choose this College for their graduation.

B.Sc Honours Course in any subject currently is extended to 4 years if you can score 75% marks throughout the first 3 years. It's totally up to you if you can extend it to 4 years or not. 4 years of B.Sc Honours course is equivalent to the previous B.Sc + M.Sc course of 5 years. The B.Sc general course is still of 3 years. Eligibility to get into the college is nothing much. The main competition will be in the Honours subjects, more than 60% marks in Honours subjects is enough to apply here, now it depends upon the merit list.

First of all, the teachers of all the departments are student friendly and they take good care towards the studies as well as the overall growth of a student. In our mathematics department, we have 4 teachers; two of them are very well qualified and now are associate professors. There was not a single day in the last 2 years when I felt bored when they were taking class and I was able to understand the class very well.

Yes, we also have a placement cell at our institute. Last year, 10-15 seniors got jobs at Accenture, Wipro, Tata, etc. from on-campus placement procedure.

No, we don't have residential facilities in our institute.

The college campus is very beautiful with a big flower garden. The buildings are newly colored. At the entrance, there is a big screen where the temperature, humidity and, other information can be seen. Now, when you step ahead, there is a big map of the college which helps you to find each and every department and other facilities very quickly. In the right side, there is a canteen for both students and teachers (separated). Before the canteen, there is boys' common room, inside of which there are different indoor games like Carrom boards, chess, Table tennis board and College union room. Even, the union is very friendly and helps you in any kind of difficulties. It is a ragging-free campus. Also, this College has the biggest indoor which consists three big wooded badminton courts. The ground inside is also very big. Inside, there are many geographical instruments like rain gauge, rain collector, etc. There is one big history museum, research centre, a big auditorium named Alapan as well. There is also one herbal medicine garden beside the indoor hall.

I got the best campus life here at Bhairab Ganguly College. It's very enjoyable to play cricket or football in such a big ground or badminton on the polished wooden courts. Just after the one week of admission in this College, the union gave us perfect fresher’s party that I can never forget. After that, we got one more fresher’s from the departmental seniors. There are 5 or 6 different clubs in the college (music, art, photography, debate, dance, etc.). The Basanta Utsav and Saraswati Pujo are main attractions in the college as compared to other fests. Also, annual sports happen every year. Cricket tournament is arranged every year also. Also, if you do well, you can get chance in university sports teams (cricket, football, chess etc.) and can represent your university in east zone tournaments and later in the national. Overall, you will get full exposure in this College as a student.
