There are a lot of B-Schools in Ahmedabad and one of the most decorated IIM Ahmedabad is also in our city. While aiming to get admissions there, I got the admissions here as my CAT score was probably good enough for just this college. SKIPS is also a brand in Ahmedabad and my experience while doing PGDM was again as good as anything. From what I observed the college has all the facilities but the faculty were average. The management has tried their best to dish out some companies for placements but the rate was still not over 50%. More than anything, the college has helped me evolve as a person and to understand the business art and the role of a management student. All the students were individually mentored by our faculty and that made my PGDM experience a memorable one. Guest lectures were every week thing and founding members, industry leaders, celebrities, and top faculty from other universities were the ones who gave those lectures. All in all, I would like to say that SKIPS Ahmedabad can be a good private college so aim for the top and if you unable to make it there, you can join St Kabir College Ahmedabad.
Case study methods just like any other B-schools were the way here. The academic schedule was always tight and the last minutes lectures to complete the syllabus were prominent at Sant Kabir College Ahmedabad. It was mostly because of the events that classes had to be compromised often than not. Practicals formed a huge part of the PGDM course and completing the assigned tasks always remained a challenge. They have adopted the teaching methods from all the top B-Schools and have done it successfully.
Quite average as the professors here would speak in Hindi or Gujarati because even the students were not academically strong. I would rate this performance poor because no matter what a Business School’s faculty should never be doing this and it really pissed me off when the professors spoke in Gujarati or Hindi with the students. If I remove this quality then there a lot of good things about them as one of them would be their co-operation and support in whatever we felt like. We were free to chose our case study on own and if the college doesn’t had that particular study our professors would arrange one for us. Thus, co-operative and friendly but lacked in teaching skills.
The college has managed to bring some new age companies like Zomato, Swiggy, OYO, Nestle, Coca-Cola, and HDFC Bank to name a few. They hardly had any slots left as just like student’s backup option for the recruiters too, the college was a backup option. They got some of us and Zomato being the most prominent one. Since, I am working with them, all I would say is my colleagues who did exactly the same study were paid 30% more than me because they were from MICA and other top b-schools. This is the difference between the placements of top b-schools and SKIPS. Luckily the placements happened before Covid came into existence or else the ratio which was 50% would have been even lesser.
The Drive-in New campus will have a hostel but when I joined, we were admitted to Drive in Old campus and that campus doesn’t have any hostel facility.
St Kabir Institute of Professional Studies building and a ground beside that is what the campus is all about. The building will soon be demolished as the new campus is almost ready but talking about the campus, it was good. The building had all the facilities but lifts. Hence, we were forced to use stairs as the discussion room was on the 3rd floor and classes on the 1st. The canteen on the 4th and auditorium on the second. We just kept climbing floors to floors during the breaks as the building was all that we could have gone. The canteen and library were good and canteen took half the floor so it was massive indeed. The college building is adjacent to 2 of Kabir institutes schools and the ground was common for school and us. That’s it from infrastructure but once the college shifts to the latest campus, it would be great as its bigger and have all the colleges and schools under 1 campus.
Events were like a normal thing because it started with a fresher’s party and ended with annual fest. In between we had some 8-10 more events as we celebrated all the festivals at the college along with Navratri. Navratri of Gujarat will always need a special mention as the 2-night event was forcefully turned into a 3-night affair because of students demand. I had fun hanging around the college and 2 years passed by beautifully. If Covid didn’t arrived, we could have spent one more month at the campus but nonetheless, I had some great fun at the college.
