Amrita School of Pharmacy B.Pharm Review By Ebin Raju Cherian

The college provides a great atmosphere for the study and research purposes. Apart from studies, the college also uplifts the opportunities for research also. All students are encouraged and supported in having research paper and other works in relevant fields. The reason for me to choose Amrita is its top ranking and quality education. It's curriculum, faculties and academic atmosphere are entirely different from other college. Since it's a Deemed University, they try their best to provide best facilities. The college provides best lab facilities with varied sophisticated equipment to enhance our studies and exposure. The presence of Amrita Hospital near to the campus increases the clinical exposure for Pharm.D students too.

The course that I have taken is Bachelor of Pharmacy. It's a four year Undergraduate course in pharmacy which deals more with drug dispensing and formation of a new drug. The reason for me to choose the course was to be in medical field that deals with medicine other than MBBS. And also, Since my childhood I'm very curious to know what happens to a drug when administered to our body. That curiosity made me to choose this course. The admission to the college is based on entrance exam and personal interview conducted. The entrance exam will be conducted in February - March and based on the rank the students get shortlisted. The exam syllabus will be related to the 11th and 12th standards’ topics. After the short listing, they will be called for personal interview. It will be based on our personal details. After both these phases, if selected they will be informed. If not selected in Merit, Management and NRI seats are also available. But the fees will be higher than Merit seats.

The faculties are skilled and well educated. All have completed their PhD and continuing their research on various fields that provide help to the medical and treatment areas. They take classes both in regional as well as English language. They use aids like Power Point Presentations to enhance the teaching process. They are ready to repeat and clarify the doubts whenever we have. They also guide us in practical sessions. They ensure to provide us the better explanation on various experiments and equipment in labs. In final year, whole students are divided to different groups and each is provided with a faculty to guide them. Under his/her guidance, students can do their project work on various fields and most of the works are of greater novelty and have great influence in medical area.

The college has a placement cell of its own. It is headed by a team of Placement officer and the CIR department (Centre of Industrial Relations). They provide proper guidance to the students so that they can get selected during placement. It also ensures that all are doing well in interview and get placed. Nearly 5-6 from a class choose for placements, rest choose higher studies or find a job by their own. The companies that provide placements are Mylan, IQVIA, OG Healthcare, Zifo, etc. The average salary package offered is 6.5 LPA. The placements and packages are average.

The college provides residential facilities. According to course curriculum, it is compulsory to be in hostel in first two years unless you are staying with parents within 6 km distance from college. The hostel facilities are nice when comparing to other hostels. The water and electricity are available 24*7. The rooms are available in 3-4 sharing basis. Bathroom facility is common. If needed separate single rooms with attached bathroom are available, but you need to pay more fees. AC facility is also available with single room facility, if needed. The food provided is vegetarian and if we need non-veg we can order or buy from outside. Gym, indoor badminton courts, and volleyball court are available in hostel and we can access them at anytime. Overall, hostel facility is good and clean.

The college is situated in the Amrita Institute of Medical Science campus. So whole facilities are available nearby. The college has separate Undergraduate and Post Graduate labs equipped with equipment. The lab equipments are well maintained and calibrated. Library facility is available in the college with almost 6000 books and access to software. Apart from college library, a central library facility in hospital is also available. The computer lab facility provides the best systems with access to various databases and software. The infrastructure provided is top notch. The access and experience to these equipments enhance our career.

The life at campus is good. As I said before the college and hostel is located inside the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) campus, this will help us to access it easily. Since, it is a medical college we can have alliance with students of various course like MBBS, BDS, Allied, Nursing, etc. The college conducts Annual Sports Fest named Udgosh in April and Annual Arts Fest named Dhwani in December. Also, the college conducts various regional and national festivals like Onam (Aavani) and Holi (Rang Barse). The college has various clubs like Music club, Dance club, Nature club, Yoga club, Sports club, etc. to enhance the participation of students in extracurricular activities.
