Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Saif Zaidi

Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology is without a doubt one of the best colleges of state and of course it ranks quite highly among various technical institutes of the country. In relative terms, it was more like a start-up where most of the things were done by students themselves. The labs where free always and students can go and do their experiments. For all those who might not know but mechanical engineering studies is mostly done in labs. The institute provided a lot of exposure but students mostly had to work towards it themselves. I am not saying the management or the faculty was irresponsible but students were given more freedom than they actually intended to. Besides studies there are a lot of open societies at the college and they were fun. If they weren’t there at the campus life wouldn’t have been as seaming as it was during my graduation years from 2013 to 2017. The societies always kept me busy because I was an active member and contributing for the societies was always a pleasure. I made friends with both juniors and seniors as quite a few of them were outsiders and me being a local lad would always turn up for help.

Education here is little different as the syllabus was not too lengthy because we were taught the main points. We could avoid quite a few topics in the syllabus as question banks always kept care of the exams. What will come and what’s important was something that we knew beforehand but in the process our practicals took some beating because there was no faltering in that. If projects were not submitted on time or the practical classes were skipped the consequences were beyond imagination. Attendance of 75% is not that mandatory as you can keep that a shade over 50 and no will bother you.

Live and let live was their motto as they would come and tell us the important topics of the subject from the beginning. They will teach us that in 4 months, a month before the semester exams and give us enough time to come up to them if we have any problem regarding any of the topics. Have seen only 2 engineering colleges, and both of them had more or less the same system. I guess that is how it is automated in technical institutes. It may look weird in the beginning but once you get used to such things, it would look rather easy. Thus, faculty didn’t play much role in students making career but they made us self-sufficient to know what’s better for us and who we should go about it.

Placements will depend on the hard work you put in training and internship. There are many companies in Pithampur which is an Industrial metropolitan of Indore city. Many companies like Good Year Tyres, Lupin, and others where we were trainees during the internships. A proper internship with them may land you for a job with them even before you have your degree in hand. Otherwise, though the company arranges a planned set-up for placements and nearly 60-70% of the students had placements from the campus. The average salary can be counted between 4-5 lakhs and I felt that was a little shame because there’s a lot of pay disparity between B.Tech and M.Tech students as they were offered exactly the double of what the undergraduate students were offered.

SAIT has very nice boys and girls hostel in the campus. Central India may not be favored by many when it comes to studies but SAIT has many outsiders and therefore the 3 boy’s hostels for such a huge institution is always in demand. I was from Indore luckily but many students complained that they have turned a 3-seater room into 4 to accommodate as many students as they can. Students who don’t stay at the hostel are not allowed to enter so I have no idea about the room size and the facility that were there in the hostel.

One of the largest universities of Indore, SAIT is spread across 54 acres. The institute has management, medical, and engineering institutes under the same campus. The engineering institute building is superb as it is divided in 3 parts. One of which is for academics while the other two for administration and management department. Every facility from library to playgrounds, the university has all. Engineering building had 2 common girls and 1 common boys room. The university also has a medical center inside the campus. There are 2 canteens and 1 cafeteria inside the campus. There’s a cricket ground at the campus and none other than ace cricketer VVS Laxman who served as the brand ambassador of the university shared some tips to the batsmen. The college has an open amphitheater along with 2 air-conditioned auditoriums.

I learned staying independently in the college. Most of the things that I learned at SAIT have helped me. Thus, if one wants to be prepared for an independent life, SAIT is the best place for that. Events are held and students participate with great enthusiasm. The institute is not rigid and students are allowed to perform in whatever manner they want to.
