Navrachana University B.Tech Review By Paresh Khunt

Navrachana University better known as NUV has developed many societies for students so that they can have a life beyond academics. Academics though are average or decent as a wide scope of improvement can be done. One thing with autonomous colleges is that they are strict the first year but equally lenient from the next year onwards. The same goes with Navrachana. The faculty were good but due to University’s cost cutting program they let go many capable professors in 2017 and this shouldn’t have been done. Everything is paid here from using the university’s facilities to industrial tours. Industrials tours were like picnic as we were taken to some of the big IT companies but the management didn’t explained us anything about the working style or the people’s style of play working in those industries. It was just for their brochure that they took students on industrial visits. Life at university can be good if you manage to make friends with seniors and faculty otherwise it’s for the ones who have good money.

In the first year, everything was the way our parents wanted. Daily classes and missing those will have its consequences. Portions finished well before exams and at least 2 revisions for each subjects. The practical markings were practical enough as students got the marks they deserve. At point, it looked hard to believe but come the next year and everything just vanished. 75% mandatory attendance could be managed with 40% or less depending on your relation with HOD. Practical marks not on merit but on face value or again the relations come into play. Practicals became a mere formality and studies in short took the back seat. We were given the titles of seniors so were asked to more proactive in other activities and help the juniors. This was repeated till the final year and I finally bid adieu to the university with nothing but disappointment.

Faculty were more like friends as many young faces were seen in the faculty squad. Some of their brilliant and even though were not much strict but made sure they don’t offer freebies to students. The ones who deserved got exactly those numbers in exams but in 2017, the good faculty were removed and again some fresh legs were introduced. Luckily, it was my last year and had to deal with them just for a year. The university seems like have a policy of just keeping the young faculty and if that is the case the ones that were hired in 2017 must have been vanished by now.

Gujarat is one state which has many industries other than IT. The placements were again average as 40-50% students of IT were placed and don’t ask the package value as they were awful. Companies like TCS, and Infosys have tie up with institution and just for the sake of hiring some so that a symbiotic relation can be maintained they hire some candidates whom they send for training as the companies know that students of Navrachana are not ready.

The hostel campus is not in the main campus but a mile away from the campus. The hostel campus was big and some events and meeting were held in the hostel campus. Other than hostellers no one was inside the building so can’t give an overview on that. The hostel capacity was alright and I am sure the facilities as well because if I judge them by face value, it was 10 on 10. NUV has many outsiders every year and hostels are therefore compulsory.

NUV is big and bigger than most of the universities. All university colleges were in the same campus. All the classes are equipped with projection technology. Excellent computer labs and a nice library that has ample reading area. An open amphitheater with a seating capacity of over 500 students. There’s a huge cafeteria that serves everything from tea to thali. Food at the canteen was completely hygienic and most of the students had lunch at the canteen as bringing tiffin and then searching areas to have that was not a college kind of thing. Spaces are defined to practice and conduct group activities. To showcase all the talent that you have beyond academics, two world class auditoriums with capacity of nearly 800 and 500 students is there at the campus. The university’s sporting facilities were the talking point of the campus as every facility from basketball court to open grounds were highly maintained and were taken care of on daily basis.

The university hosts TedX, Khel Mahakumbh, and its own cultural fest NUV Fest every year. Some students are assigned to take care of the events and they get numbers without studying as they make the college proud by organizing the events at the college. They come to university for engineering but end up being event managers. Life at the campus to me was boring as it had all the facilities for the students but the crowd and rest other things sucked.
