College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences B.V.Sc Review By Veer Joshi

I am currently in the final year (5th year) of my BVSc program. In this span of five years, I have learned so many things about my course, I am pushing myself to be the expert. Our university is an AICTE certified university, it is among the top colleges of the nation for BVSc. The surrounding of Pantnagar will push you and help you so much to be a better veterinarian in the future. I took admission here four years back by clearing an entrance exam that was conducted by the university itself. Each year AIEEA conducts its own exam for the admission of new students known as ICAR.

There are currently two courses offered by our college, one of them is BVSc, which has a sole focus on being a Veterinarian. Our campus has provided facilities like a large stable, cow sheds with numerous varieties of cows, and other animals which have helped us in being better at our subjects. We can visit these places on a daily basis if we want to. Apart from this, our professors took us to numerous practical places and each of us had a chance to be a part of such learning. Also, we enjoyed ourselves so many in those visits, being in completely different and new places each time. The professors of ours were very friendly and we had a great time.

Most of our professors are at a level of professional doctors which makes us highly privileged to learn from them. They are very well qualified and that could be seen from the way they teach. Also, in our 5-year program, we had a chance of being under the company of almost 20-30 super qualified professors. Their teaching style is good, apart from that, they more focus on the practical aspects which we enjoyed a lot. Also, the exams were of sufficient level, everything comes from our class notes.

More than 30% of the students pursuing this course generally go for the army for jobs, as they provide good perks for the vets. Some of them go abroad to study and I have also decided to go for a job to study. The on-campus placements here are good, and average each year generally goes to around 6-7 LPA which is decent for someone doing BVSc from Pantnagar, as to why many go abroad for either higher studies or for the job.

Seniors and juniors get different hostels. Hostel accommodation is done batch-wise, that is you’re most likely to share your room with one of your classmates, which is a good thing, I guess. If there are single rooms available, you might get those, but more likely you will get a room with someone. The hostel building is old but got renovated. Food is served by the mess in the hostel itself. Food timings are good, you get your breakfast at 7 in the morning, Lunch at 2 and Dinner at 8 in the evening. You get snacks at 5 in the evening which generally includes tea, biscuits, and poha sometimes.

The campus is quite big and for us that are pursuing BVSc, we get to visit many places where there are animals kept beautifully. The library here is among the biggest libraries you’d ever see. You get a free Wi-Fi connection which will work in most of the places on the entire campus like your college, library, CCF, etc. The Wi-Fi doesn’t work in hostels, as there is no router connected in the hostel currently. There are many places to eat outside, the majority of them are located in markets. Our hostel is near to “Choti market” which is beneficial.

For every student in BVSc, campus life will be so good, you couldn’t have imagined. Five years here are over before I could see it, every day here was memorable. Visiting Gandhi park, kisan mela, cultural fests, cafeterias in the evening, etc. were all so good and beautiful to live in. I studied better here than I could think also I enjoyed it a lot too. I had a great combo of both things and it was amazing. For BVSc students, if you’re an animal lover, this place is made for you to explore more about you and this field of veterinary.
