College of Engineering Muttathara B.Tech Review By Nayan Mohan

It has been almost one year since I had joined the college. Frankly, I hadn't even heard about the college before my admission procedure. I got a below average rank in KEAM examination (around 29k). This forced me to choose this college. Other colleges where private. I had no interest of studying in a private institution which I clearly don't know why. Maybe the fee structure in the private institutions. Hence, during allotment procedure (where we need to put prioritize colleges at top and non-prioritized at bottom). I listed down the top engineering colleges and then put my college name (College of engineering Muttathara) at the top during allotment process. I took Computer Science stream. Honestly I don't want to hype about my college. It's pretty average as per my overall campus experience. I give the college a rating of 2.5/5. Try to score high rank in entrance exam. If you failed to do it. Maybe this college is better option for you.

I took admission in B.Tech in computer science. I had also taken Computer Science in my 12th standard. Hence, I liked the subject very much so I wanted to choose it in my following studies. Computer Science provides a good opportunity in the upcoming AI world. You can study Computer Science Engineering in merit category if you get a rank between 25k-35k (approximately) in the entrance examination (KEAM). The college even provides admission through other means like Direct Admission. If you get admission through merit the fee will be less. If you prefer for the non KEAM admission then your fee will be more (almost double than the merit category fee).

An excellent thing to say about the college is its faculties. They really help us in the academics. The knowledge of the teachers about the subject is also good. They are experienced. I don't really know about experiences of every faculties expect some. Every faculty must at least have experience of around 6-7 years. Most of them are really friendly to the students expect some. To be frank every teachers doesn't teach us complete topics. This is the case of every engineering college which follows the curriculum of KTU that the semesters are really tight. You are needed to write the exams frequently and not even getting enough time to study with a lot of work like record writing, assignment writing, labs etc. Engineering is a self study subject and teachers can't teach you everything mentioned in the syllabus. Their style of teaching is not so special as it is old fashioned.

Yes, our college has a placement cell. I think the placement cell is actually doing some good job. About 40-60% students get placement from our college every year. Even some coaching is given to students at 6th or 7th year to teach them about how to attend the interview. The highest paying package provided was 5 LPA and the lowest was 2-3 LPA. The average package was 8 LPA. Top recruiters are Infosys, TCS, UST global, etc. Our college doesn't provide any internship programs. But we can get to access to internships from outside sources like LinkedIn.

Our college doesn't provide any hostel facilities of their own. But, it provides female students a hostel which is like collaboration. It is not a part of college but they arrange it for them. I get to know that the hostel experience is pretty bad. For male students we need to look for a hostel, PG or other mode to stay. It can be found close to the campus itself.

About the buildings they are really small. Not so big in height that it is not permitted in the area because an airport is really close to the campus. The college has 4-5 buildings and enough class rooms to occupy every student. The size of classrooms is also big to hold students close to 65. The fans and light of the classrooms are properly in working condition. But the class rooms doesn't have inbuilt projectors. In the campus free Wi-Fi is available, but it cannot be accessible from every part of the college. I hope the Wi-Fi accessibility will increase in the upcoming years. The campus has a lot of free space which are not even usable. They look like a grass forest. They can really use the place for building new buildings or they can just make it a playground. No playground is available in the campus. That is really a negative. The campus has filter accessibility in every block. They need to clean it properly. But I'm not sure cleaning processes is not done frequently. But it is improving now days. The bathroom facilities are also good which looks clean. The campus doesn't have proper workshop except for the computer science branch. Rest others look like a temporary setup.

The students and people working at different aspect for the college are friendly enough. The seniors are too friendly to the juniors. There is no raging in the campus. I think that it is because of the strict rules, but the seniors are just so chill. They wouldn't even try to rag. Our college has active clubs. We don’t even get enough funds from the management to do fest. But the organisers doing a good job with the fund they are getting. We don’t even have stage to do programs. They just build a temporary setup for fests and events to occur. The campus doesn't even have a proper ground for tournaments to occur or we can't even play outdoor games properly in our college. In the case of indoor games, they can be managed well inside the campus itself. I hope they work on this and provide students a spacious ground real quick. We have to do our inter-college sports events outside the campus, which is not positive about the college.
