Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology B.Tech Review By Harsh Shaw

First time when I visited GCELT it was through WBJEE counselling in my second round. The college campus was very spacious and lush green and it was rainy season so the smell in the air due to rain, green and mud was very beautiful which made my heart feel at home experience. When I first started the official batch, seniors were very friendly making you feel like your big brothers and sisters. The college has large alumni network because it was established during 1920. Attendance is also not a concern so you will get extra time if you want to study for other things like government exam or any other exams.

My branch is Information technology and I opted for it because through research I get to know that it is more focused on practical working. First year courses are same for all branches in college. Branch courses are introduced from 2nd year. People have to build foundation during 11th and 12th classes for this branch because some units in program require mathematical and physics knowledge.

The faculty members are very helpful, friendly, and interactive. They will always help you understand the concepts through different examples and if you didn't understand then they will give you some reference material for further understanding. All the faculty teachers are very highly certified either they have completed PhD or in process to get by doing work as assistant professor. All the faculty members are very knowledgeable in regards with their own subject. Every faculty member has different teaching style, some teaches through making summaries for the chapters and giving the notes personally for exams and understanding. While some teaches through the process of explaining and writing everything in detail to make you understand the chapter with appropriate examples.

We do have a placement cell at GCELT and it's a collaborative cell with 3 more institutes like Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Government College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology and Kalyani Government College of Engineering. Every college has very less students so by making collaborative placement we complete the least number of placement seats for interviews for companies and cell also helps students to get jobs through interviews and other stuff.

We have our hostel inside the campus which was opened last year only before that we had a hostel on lease from government outside the campus about 500m away from the campus. But, I don't know that condition of that but our new hostel is very hygienic and clean. Very well structured rooms, clean washrooms, entertainment hall, and an area for playing badminton. In the hostel there is no ragging and the seniors are very helpful in every aspect making the hostel feel like home. There is also a ground for sports activities and cultural work inside the campus.

We have a total of three buildings inside the campus and one hostel building. 2 buildings consist of the AICTE office in East zone which is mainly for AICTE works and the other is our college main front office where registration regarding work is done including any work related to scholarship and other funding works. Besides that our mechanical workshop is also inside that building. The third building is our main building for studies where different classes are conducted. A main hall is there where examinations are conducted it is also used for conducting government and job written exams and has a strong surveillance system which avoids cheating. We have other labs for many courses like computer organisation, digital electronics, Programming, biology lab, chemistry lab, etc. besides lab for classes rooms are also present for theoretical classes.

I have a very nice campus life with very friendly seniors and nice batch mates. The campus is very big and lush green which is soothing for me besides that not too much students enter the campus because the seat is very limited so you will feel a comfort of less crowd and freedom. Our college has some clubs like robotics, cultural club, photography club, and sports club. We have three fest inside the college first is Tech fest which is conducted in September in which tech related activities, second is sports fest which is conducted in January, and a lot of events are conducted including, badminton, cricket ,chess, relay race, football, volleyball, and carrom. Cricket is the biggest event in sports in which a special auction is held in college campus for selecting members for teams which gives a very nice experience before the fest. Third and last the cultural fest named as Punormillon also know as Resurrection is a fest where our previous batch seniors are called during their fest for enjoy and a series of events are conducted by students including arrangements and everything.
