LBS College Of Engineering admission eligibility through KEAM entrance

The college is a great choice for Engineering. It is located nearby a town which provides easy access to buses. The infrastructure is good enough but maybe not the best. Placements are good enough and have increased in the past academic year. The college has also received NBA accreditation (for all departments except EEE). Definitely it is the best college in Kasaragod for Engineering. The college is definitely a good option even though never the best. Placements are good.

There are 6 B.Tech courses and 1 M.Tech course as well as 5 Ph.D courses. All 5 of the departments except Electrical have NBA accreditation. Faculty is very supportive yet may not be fully knowledgeable. Classes are easy to understand for some students but not for all. The syllabus is not very modernized and might become a burden if KTU makes the semester short. Some chapters may not be taken due to lack of time and has to be self learned through YouTube (probably the case for every KTU affiliated college). The eligibility is through KEAM entrance examination. CS takes up to 180 students in 3 batches and for the previous year the last rank for CS was 19000 (for around 100000 who appeared in KEAM). KTU should update the course syllabus for up to date subjects. In the coming years nursing is also going to be added as a course. ECE department has last rank of 39000 last year. CSE is more of a combination of hardware subjects as well as software subjects. B.Tech is where most are enrolled. M.Tech doesn’t have many students. B.Tech courses include Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, and more.

Faculty is very friendly. Some of them are very knowledgeable and makes us grasp concepts while some might not be good enough. Lab faculty is supportive yet may not be able to rectify difficult errors. There are teachers with Ph.D or M.Tech and provides support for extra activities technically. Some faculties are strict while others are lenient. Just after admission, office as well as seniors helps to apply for scholarships. Some faculties teach too fast without letting us understand, just to finish the topics.

There is a dedicated placement cell to assist for placements. Companies like Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, and more come for recruitment. Packages are average. CS and IT have good placement rates. This year mechanical department also got good placements. Currently you shouldn't expect companies like Google or Microsoft to recruit. One should always remember that placements are based on your skill level and aptitude that you build yourself and not the classes so for better packages and companies you should work more. Additional interview and placement training (such as English language training) where given during first year itself.

There are good hostel facilities. 3 men's hostel and one women's hostel. Fee is manageable. Food is average. Non veg is available (not always). The hostels are clean and hygienic. Might face water shortage during summer as college. Since I am not a hosteller I don't know much about ragging in hostel. Only one hostel (men's) has different year students together, rest of them have only 1 year's students. Women's hostel has all students together. A room has maximum 4 people.

Different departments have their own buildings. Infrastructure is good but some blocks have lack of facilities. Electric shortages occur some times. Labs have no problems as generator is there. Labs are good. Labs are not fully focused at developing practical knowledge. Water shortages are common (not recently) due to hot weather. College is built on rocks and has total area of 52 acres even though few of it is actually used. Canteen is good but not much food options. College has its own bus covering most close routes. College has grounds for football, basketball, badminton and volleyball. Canteen has less seating capacity but standing tables are available. Some assembly halls are present but no auditorium for full capacity to hold all students. One problem I have seen is the distance between departments. CS is at one end and has to walk a lot to other end to attend lab (for electronic subjects) though not all buildings are that far apart. There is a bio park to chill.

Campus life is alright. But mostly studies are focused. We do have really good competitions and cultural as well as tech fest as well as sports. Sports are encouraged at college as well as upper levels. Most classes (in CSE department) have projector. Seniors are helpful and ragging doesn't exist. Even though politics are pretty prominent here and sometimes lead to conflict, this has reduced now. Gender composition of students is equal between male and female (except mechanical department). Overall I would say college life is based on your perception. For me it was pretty average.
