Guru Nanak Khalsa College B.Sc Review By Deepak Third

I was a Student of Guru Nanak Khalsa College and had completed my graduation in Biochemistry in 2014. At my time the overall structure of the college was not so good but in my final year the complete renovation of the college was done which completely changed the look of our college. The college is affiliated to the Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and is A grade by NAAC. GNKC offers various courses in Science, Arts, Commerce, Computer Science and Physical Education. The admission procedure is very simple you only require minimum 50 % marks in your previous academic record but the rush to get admission in it is very high you can simply meet the faculty by visiting there or by calling on their website number and query for the required documents and get admission in it.

I joined the B.Sc Biochemistry stream and the eligibility criteria for getting admission in it is very simple you only need your previous academic mark sheet and other documents which you can query about while visiting the college. Although there are many courses like chemistry, microbiology, biotechnology but I had interest in biochemistry so I choose this course also I wanted to develop my career in pharma so it was well suited for me. The course subjects were as per my expectations and the syllabus course was also up to date in comparison to other colleges syllabus. This course is good for you if you are willing to develop your career in pharma industry or in researches.

There were 5 subjects in each semester and for each subject there were 2 teachers and a H.O.D. Total number of faculties in our college were near about 180. The teachers were very friendly as the teachers were very young having 2,3 years of teaching experience but the H.O.D were very experienced and had achieved great achievements in their field. Most of the teachers were postgraduates from this college themselves. H.O.D were very qualified up to doctorate level. Our maximum teachers were very friendly and good in solving confusion or problems of students. Although all the teachers were very good in teaching still the passing percentage of students were always used to be up to 60% only out of all the students. Many times the checking of answer sheets were not done properly due to which the students have to face compartment in the respective subject which is not a good part of that college. Although the answer sheets were not checked by the faculty of our college.

Training and placement cells of our college were not so active and placement for fee selected courses was used to be organised by the management. For my course there was no company who visited our college neither anyone of our batch got placement in any company because everyone at that time was looking for post graduation. Apart from that there is a course known as Industrial Chemistry for which our college was very famous and students joining that course were provided placements too. My younger brother was in that course and he got a very good placement in a MNC.

I want to aware you this that hostel facility is also not available for students who are planning to take admission in Guru Nanak Khalsa College. Hostel facility is only available for pharmacy students and their block is built separate from the main campus only pharmacy students are allowed in them. We sometime used to visit the hostel because there were many known friends of mine in that stream and by looking one can claim that hostel rooms were quite decent and the food quality was also good. Once I also asked for the charges of hostel rooms and at that time it was 35000 per annum. Also the girls and boys hostel were separate. But for students other than pharmacy stream PG's are easily available near the college.

The overall infrastructure of the college is not so big it has only 1 playground and total area of college is 3 acres. There are near about 70 classrooms, 1 lab for every subject, 16 smart classes, 1 library with sitting capacity of 100 students at a time, one auditorium with sitting capacity of 250 students at a time. Building structure was not so good in 2013 but later the whole college was renovated after which the infrastructure started looking quite attractive. There is no canteen facility no cafeteria although you can go outside the college for lunch or for break and outside there were many dhabas and eating places. Medical and emergency support of the college is very good as it offers NCC, NSS course too. So the medical support and emergency support of the college is quite impressive.

My overall campus life used to be very busy due to up down schedule. Apart from that the fun of traveling with your friends pulling healthy jokes were the things which I enjoyed very much and miss today. Our college used to organise many different activities timely like Blood donation camp, slogan writing, science exhibition, drawing competition, sports competition, dancing and singing competition. I myself too participated in blood donation camp and science exhibition in which our college got first prize in district level and me and my partner represented our college at national level too. In our college there is one more thing which I would like you to be aware of as inside the college the ragging is completely banned but still some students try to pull such activities outside the college on those who students who show off a little bit, so that is one thing which you have to keep in your mind.
