Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication Review By Priyansh Shah

AIMC is India’s finest mass communication college as it offers a lot of PG courses. For students it becomes easy to choose the course as each course specialize in their respective area. From advertising & marketing, to digital media there are specific courses. Fees is little high but with the tie-ups that this institute has, it was nothing in compared to that. Infrastructure is one of the best as the college has a studio with teleprompter. For mock conferences the college has a press room, and an advertising lab that have graphics never seen before. Placements too are amazing as many people working in media houses like NDTC, CNBC, and Zee Network have done their studies from this college. Many magazines have listed Apeejay as Country’s best institute for journalism. Thus, to pursue a PG in Journalism, there’s no institute better than Apeejay in India.

The admission criteria are not as simple as you need to hold a diploma or a bachelor degree and then a personal interview to check whether the candidate is fit enough for the course. The seats are limited and students apply here in numbers. Getting admitted here is not that easy and this is what has made all the media houses made this institute their top priority to hire students. One year course divided in 2 semesters of 4 and half months each. Internship is done in two parts here as one after the first semester break and next one after the completion of syllabus of the second semester.

Core faculty had all the experience in the world and guest faculties were from respective companies in which we were doing specializations in. Media is a vast industry and an industry that has given maximum jobs in recent past. Advertising and PG Communication was my subject from Auro University and I continued with that at Apeejay. Faculty were hard to approach here as beyond the classrooms they would hardly talk to us. Apparently, the guest faculties were more helpful as they would take an interactive session and will come back on campus on demand. Students are the key as journalism is a skilled profession and one has to be at their best to be a part of this industry.

College has done quite well over the years with regards to placements. Almost all renowned media companies hire students from Apeejay every year and the top advertising agencies of the country were also present to award us jobs with a nice pay package. Placements were not exactly 100% percent but close to that for sure.

Apeejay Institute has both boys and girls hostel inside the campus. The hostels are quite good but since the college is located in Dwarka which is one of the best places to find a nice PG, I stayed away from the institute hostel. The hostel fee is quite high and plus the capacity is low and I found a PG just in the vicinity of the college. Also, the college has limited capacity and students applying for hostel are many. So, chances of getting the hostel rooms are also less.

The college location starts with a cemented road and to the right of it is a garden that has trees and more trees. All the classes are air-conditioned and then there’s a production control room that has two LED’s out of which one shows the preview and the other one the outcome. The college has an open amphitheatre that has hoardings of media chaupal. Most of our presentations were presented there. Apart from all these there was a press room, advertising labs, and a video editing suite. Each room of the college was air-conditioned. There was no canteen inside the college and during the lunch break we mostly had to go out for lunch. The infrastructure was adept with regards to a mass communication institute.

Students who enroll are serious and therefore there was no joking around. Fun fests and events were an everyday affair. We would have invitees all around the year and it was nice sharing the space with some big names from media and press. For review of the institute many prestigious magazines like Career 360, Outlook and India Today people come and took the survey. They have been doing this for a while as this is what we were informed. No one from the management influenced us to give feedback as were free to share our thoughts. The institute has done remarkably well that they were sure that no negative word will come from students.
