Cochin University of Science and Technology, School of Legal Studies BBA+LLB Review By Akhila Anand

College life is something that we all will cherish forever and my last 5 years at School of Legal Studies was nothing short amazing. My program BBA.LL.B (Hons.) is a comprehensive program that emphasizes interpersonal relationships and creates a dynamic atmosphere for personal growth. The course is designed to develop critical thinking, communication and practice skills necessary for legal field. School of Legal Studies not only helped me in my professional life but also helped me grow as a person.

The admission is through CUSAT CAT examination. There are three courses offered as well, BBA LL.B (Hons.), B.Com LL.B (Hons.), and B.Sc LL.B (Hons.). School of Legal Studies is dedicated to LLB, LLM and 3year LLB evening batch. There are 30 seats at present for each BBA LL.B, B.Com LL.B and B.Sc LL.B. My main motivation to join School of Legal Studies was they had a very reputed teaching faculty and alumni background.

Teaching at School of Legal Studies is not just teachers teaching us everything. Students are made to critically think and evaluate materials and apply it in real life scenarios. Faculty is extremely qualified and most of them hold a Ph.D. Teachers have tons of published work and hold a book in their name hence they motivate students to publish papers, articles and journals.

The placement cell started working full fledged this year and was able to bring in leading firms for recruitment drive at campus. Placement cell really helped a lot of us to land on a good job, being a fresher in a law field is a tough spot and these drives and cell made it a bit easier for students not interested in Litigation have a vision in corporate world.

The university do have girls and boys hostel which is within the campus. Hostel life is something I will cherish the most. Facilities in hostel are basic and nothing extravagant. There is a student run mess in all hostels and they have hostel secretary and mess secretary taking care of hostel affairs and they voice concerns of inmates with higher authorities. All hostels are fully secured and guarded 24*7. Each hostel has a warden and matron as well.

Cochin University is famous for its greenery and vibrant campus. This vibe extended to whole of the campus. School of Legal Studies’ infrastructure is pretty old but a new block in on the way. College and blocks are pretty close and school of legal studies has its own library with a wide range of law books.

Extracurricular activities at School of Legal Studies extend to law society, maritime club, film club, moot court committees, etc. The university also heavily focuses on students cultural and sports activities. The Student Youth Welfare Department strives to function in order to provide wide range of opportunity to its students. Inter departmental competitions are held during march and south zone and national level competitions for both sports and cultural events happen during the end of the year. School of Legal Studies helps you to identify your hidden talents and support you in your extracurricular activities.
