HKBK College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Naman Rathore

I would recommend the college’s CSE branch as I had students from other branches who always used to have issues. At HKBK, students will learn under the guidance of professors who all are Ph.D. holders. The best part of the college was that students get desk work kind of learning under the domain they want to be expert in. The learning will be under an industry expert, and thereby you will also get to work on many live projects online as well. The college administration is a little strict and not the kind that lures students with toys and then shows their true colors. The uniformity in their work pattern was something to learn for. A beautiful future is waiting once you pass out from HKBKCE.

In the CSE branch, many certifications programs are run simultaneously. Along with VTU, Google also provides many certification programs. The classes for those will be held only on Saturdays and Sundays. The college has collaboration with the biggest IT names, and they take care of the practical part as they send their representatives on practical days, and we get to learn under an expert from the industry. This helped me understand how my employer will absorb me in the future. Trust me, the feel and work patterns are even the same today. Be it India or UK, and you will be prepared thoroughly on how a cubical desk job is done.

As I write, a few names come across my mind. They all were so friendly, and I have their numbers even today. If one ever feels down, they cheer them up and instill confidence with mental exercises and give tips that help maintain a balance in life and studies or work for that matter was learned by me at HKBK. Few professors quit their job after I have left college, and from what I have heard, the new professors aren’t the same. The college should bring them back as they have been a part of the institute for over ten years.

Companies like COFORGE, Infosys have collaborations with the college. They will prepare you for their work from the first semester. Thus, if you behave and be attentive in practical, your job will be fixed from those practical classes itself. Though I would like to say that this was also a lure because both the companies used to hire students from the college at quite a lesser package than market standards. Cognizant too has joined this drive, but I feel if one finds a job off-campus, they might find a better job because a package of 3-3.5 lakhs for an engineer is too less. Other than the three companies that I mentioned, Oracle, Microsoft, and Bosch are among the biggest recruiters of CSE branch students.

The hostel was more of residential flats as each flat had a hall and a room. Four students were accommodated in one hostel and then there was a hostel with only two students in it. The hostel was newly built and rooms were nice and clean. The flats were cleaned on a daily basis, and hygiene was never an issue. Even the college professors would visit the hostels to check whether the cleanliness is maintained or not. There was a separate mess for each hostel. Many did not like food at mess, and I am among those. I wish I could differ on that, but food in Bangalore and the entire South India is hard to manage for people from other states. However, the drive to become an engineer made me forgot all that, and I had fun during my stay at HKBK hostels.

The college is not that big but the main building is the widest structure that you will ever see. Those who don’t know about that building have an admin floor on the left-hand side in the ground floor. The mechanical branch is on the right side in the ground floor. The top floor was for CSE, and the IT branch and computer labs and micro technology labs were also on the top floor. Among other facilities there were sports ground, an IT center installed at the campus, a huge auditorium, and a garden with benches around. Oh, how can I forget the canteen as that was our meeting point in evening. All plans, projects, and future were discussed along with a special tea at the canteen.

The skill and knowledge required to succeed were the best learning at HKBK. Outsiders are a little less here, but the localities were a really nice bunch of people. The clubs of the colleges would see student’s participation in numbers. The cultural event though would have a local flavor and outsiders were a mere spectator in that.
