IPGMER is the no. 1 Medical Institute in West Bengal as per the NIRF ranking. Our institute was also higher than AIIMS, Bhubaneswar in the year 2022 as per the NIRF ranking. It is the only medical institute in West Bengal that has received the ‘Centre of Excellence’ title. I've chosen this institute mainly because of the modern infrastructure, excellent faculty, modern laboratory, centre of excellence title, reasonable fees and most importantly the highest patient load among all medical institutes in West Bengal. The higher the patient load, the more we will know about various diseases, which is the most important in order to gain practical knowledge for medical students.

I'm studying MBBS course, in this course we have to study for a period of 4.5 years and then do a paid internship of 1 year in the institute itself. There are total 4 academic years in this course and we'll be registered as Doctors after pursuing this course. This course includes total 19 subjects. For entry into the government medical institutes, everyone has to give NEET exam and after the NEET results, an individual has to participate in the counseling process, where physical verification of the documents will be done and after that, ranks will be declared proceeded by admission into the allotted institute will be done. My rank was 8540 in the year 2022. But currently due to higher demands and modern infrastructure of this institute, the cut off has touched the sky and have increased so much. The main motive for pursuing this course should be only and only treating people. Our institute also conducts health camps and Family Adoption Program in the village area to convey the message that healthcare services extend beyond hospitals. For me, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing the smile of the patient's family members after treating a patient. There is a Student section for helping the students whenever they need and they also help us for applying for scholarships.

There are total 19 departments about the MBBS curriculum. Among the faculties, there are posts like Head of the Department, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Demonstrator. Every faculty member is always ready to help us whenever we need them. Even outside the lecture hours, any student can go to the respected faculty member's room and clear their doubts from the respected teachers. Not only in study, they are also there to give us emotional support whenever someone asks them or tell them about their problems. All teachers use modern infrastructures like projectors to teach us, audio-visual techniques are well used to teach us. Teachers always help us understand everything regarding Practicals, OPD and Wards and even in the Operation Theatres. Teachers always use practical knowledge for teaching and show us real life medical cases for our better understanding. It really is the best teaching technique according to me. They all are doctors who have completed MD after MBBS. Post graduate teachers who are pursuing MD currently also teach us in practicals and OPDs.

After completing 4 academic years, All students are offered Paid Internship of about Rs. 30000 per month for a year. After internship, paid house staff ship of about Rs. 45000 per month is provided for one year after selecting students according to their merits. Through this, everyone gains so much knowledge about medical cases and understands the diseases better so that they can become excellent doctors in future.

There are total 6 hostels currently. One hostel is for intern and house staffs. One hostel is for only girl MBBS students. Two hostels are for first year MBBS male students. One hostel is for male MBBS students of academic year second to forth and the last one hostel is for post-graduate teachers who are currently pursuing MD degree. The hostel I stay in can accommodate two people per room. There is one chair, two beds, two mattresses, balcony and electricity in every room along with free Wi-Fi in all hostlers. The water supply is fresh and always available. Hostel floors and the bathrooms are cleaned everyday to maintain a healthy environment for the students, cold water is supplied in summers, and there is also fridge in the canteen. There is common room in the ground floor where anybody can watch TV or can play any indoor games. The food quality in the canteens is nice at reasonable price of Rs. 50 is taken per meal. Hostel campus is very neat and clean. Security service is very good. Hostel's location is just near the institute. Hostel fee is only Rs. 12 per months and there are 2 lifts in our institute which are regularly maintained. We have also been provided with anti ragging helpline numbers (working 24/7) to ensure no ragging case occurs in the hostel.

This institute has the most modern infrastructure among the all medical institutes in West Bengal. Along with projectors, audio-visual systems are also outfitted in each class. There are many lecture theatres (as per the different academic years). These lecture theatres are air conditioned and well maintained. Dissection hall is also fully air conditioned and there are Formalin Exhausters also. Practical rooms comprise of modern machines, apparatus, equipment and healthy environment. Every student is well taught using these modern machines like Microscope, Centrifuge, Colorimeter, etc. Modern CT scan and MRI machines are also there. All in all, every medical equipment that anyone can think is present here. Inside the academic building, student section is there to help everyone and our exams are also conducted in the academic building. There are 2 gyms in the campus, where students can work over their fitness. There are 2 libraries inside the academic building. One library is for under graduates and another one is for Post graduates. Every book is for available for anyone to seek knowledge along with multiple copies to avoid any kind of inconvenience to the students. There are so many buildings, comprising of so many departments like Neurology, Pulmonary, Nephrology and many more. There is one ground in the institute where games like cricket, football, volleyball are played. There are also placed for playing table tennis, and other indoor games. So many sports competitions held in college fests.

Campus is very neat and clean and direction boards and help desk is there in case someone needs any help about any particular building in the institute. Senior-junior relationship is very good. Seniors are always there to help us. Crowd is there in the campus but there is a clear distinction between the academic area and the hospital area, so the academic area isn't that much crowd. There is no political or student union currently. Although there is Resident Doctor's Association, which comprises of post graduate teachers pursuing MD degree. Two fests conducted each year. Academic fest is known as ‘Perizia’ and the Cultural fest is known as ‘Crux’ (BIGGEST medical institute fest of the Eastern India). The campus is always so helping. There is no doubt at all about why anyone should choose this institute.
