'Perizia' is an Annual Academic Fest of IPGMER Kolkata

A dream campus of every NEET aspirant of West Bengal right now is IPGMER Kolkata, not merely an academic excellence but also a centre of overall growth & work-life balance. The day when I took admission here, I shook off the thought of changing to a different Institution because the environment here gives positive vibes and gradually I realised that, joining this Institute was one of my best decisions ever. The faculties are so close to the students that they even participate in afternoon games with us. Learning environment is so good here that my degree seems fun here, not just a hectic study course. If it comes to the point of difference with other Institutions, NIRF ranking says it all.

In IPGMER Kolkata, teachers & seniors are so helpful that we don't need to compromise with our sleep cycle before exams. You need to secure a rank of around 4000-6500 in Non-EWS UR category to get your dream Institution. If you are appearing through West Bengal state counselling, you will need to verify your documents along with your domicile certificate to get this Institution. After physical documents verification, you can get access of filling your choices. There you need to choose this Institute and on admission day, you need to submit your 12th mark sheet along with some other documents which are pre-informed to you by the Institution’s website. There will be 3 semesters along with 1 main exam in 1st year and 2 semesters with 1 main exam in the following years. So you will get around 4-5 months gap between any two big exams.

The admission fee of MBBS is around Rs. 6500/- that is inclusive within the 1st semester fee. Afterwards you need to pay Rs. 4500/- for each semester on the Institute’s website whenever you want to pay the amount. Every year you have to appear for a main exam and you need to pay Rs. 600 per subject for this exam. Students whose family income is less than 2.5 LPA can get Rs. 60,000/- through Swami Vivekananda scholarship and additional assistance is given only for 1st year students whose family income criteria falls below 2.5 LPA.

The experience and knowledge of the faculties here is unimaginable. Most of them were University toppers and had excellent academical and teaching records. They are not just teachers for us, they are mentors who guide us whenever we need support. In formal lecture theatre teaching, the higher professors teach us by PPT and explain everything by drawing diagrams on the blackboard. There are around 20-30 faculty members in every non-clinical subjects and around 50 teachers in clinical subjects for 200 students in each batch. So there is a very favourable student-to-teacher ratio balance as 1 teacher takes practical tutorial classes with a group of 10 individuals.

After completing 3 phases of the degree, students have to do rotatory internships in all 19 subjects with variable durations with a monthly stipend of Rs. 43,000/-, where we have to do our hospital duties and we can learn every real time scenario to treat patients. It's a final phase where practical skills of a doctor are built before graduation.

There are 3 different buildings for boys' of different years. There is a canteen offering Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks, and Dinner with very affordable prices. Food is of great quality and hygiene is maintained perfectly by a monthly inspection. There is Rs. 12/- per month as hostel fee and students have to return back to the quaters before 12:00 AM at night. There is no ragging at all here and a very good senior-junior relationship. There is separate accommodation for girls.

The 1st impression that was created in my mind was the cleanliness and well maintenance of the campus & infrastructure. There are separate buildings for each department, namely Academic, Trauma Care, Patients' rest rooms, and the most advanced Emergency block in West Bengal. Academic building holds 7 lecture theatres with 200+ seating capacity & most advanced modern teaching amenities such as projector, air conditioners, white boards and 2 examination halls.

The infrastructure of IPGMER Kolkata is very vast. On the break hours, we can relax with friends. The senior-junior interaction is very healthy and seniors are very supportive. There is absolutely no ragging. On the hospital portion, there is crowd present as usual. Extracurricular activities like sports, art, and gaming tournaments are organised at regular intervals and these are really interesting and provides as a platform to refresh mood. Two fests are conducted each year, one academic fest called 'Perizia' and one cultural fest called Crux. Overall the entire campus life is refreshing and very beautiful.
