Jadavpur University B.Tech Review By Golam Masum Basar

The overall experience of the university is superb. I'll describe each aspect in the later section but here let me give an outline of my experience. Jadavpur University offers the best ROI in India, the fees is just 2400 and getting an average placement of 10 LPA (20 LPA for CSE). There's no 75% attendance policy, 45-50% is enough. The campus is lush and green. The professors and all staffs are very good. Faculties have at least one foreign university degree. It has good libraries, labs, and above all good environment with good friends. Few things like the buildings which are quite old, though they go through renovation but still look old. Classrooms & washroom can be improved but its okay for using.

The Academics is one thing where JU is ahead of many colleges & universities. Students getting into JU are meritorious so they all perform well in the academics. I have more knowledge of CSE students so I'll focus on them. The average CGPA of CSE people is very good like 8-8.5 always. In this program CSE offers a good and well designed curriculum, though it’s old and traditional but that's what IITs & NITs teach. Course basically helps us to learn and is useful for higher studies and researches but for placement we need to prepare separately. If the placement preparation is somewhat added to the course it would have been better.

Faculties are excellent in Jadavpur University. Almost all of them have a foreign university degree and many published research papers. The ways they teach is very conventional and traditional like most of the colleges they use ppt, write and draw on the board, use projectors and give lectures. Professors are quite interactive in the classes and maintain a good communication with students.

The placement of JU is what I want to discuss, in one word I can say it's worth it. After paying 9600 for 4 years and getting a 20 LPA is really worth it. Companies often visit our campus for internships and placements. Almost everyone got placed. Jadavpur holds 100% placement records even for lower branches. In CSE we have 97% placements, rest have opted for higher studies. Google have offered 57LPA, Samsung 44LPA & 40LPA, Microsoft 45LPA, and Wells Fargo 27LPA are few CTC offered to students. Except tech, consultancy, banks and even quant companies visit for placements. Majorly students sit for placements but a few opt for higher studies in Harvard, Stanford which reflects their academic excellence.

Hostel is very cheap with good facilities. The room rent is Rs 10 and electricity bill is Rs 15. Only two times of meals is provided in the hostel which is of good quality and the cost ranges from Rs 1800-2200. We share a room with 2/3 others. We are provided with beds, fans, almirah, curtains & mirror. 1st year students stays in a separate hostel and it's quite new. Washrooms are also in good conditions and cleaned regularly.

Infrastructure is where Jadavpur University lacks when compared to IITs and NITs. It's a state govt. university with very minimal fees to the infrastructure is the place where we co operate. Buildings are quite old, though they are renovated timely but worn out and look old again. Classrooms are also not very much equipped. Some have ACs while some don't. Washrooms in the departmental buildings need improvements. We also have labs and libraries, but those can be better if the budget increases. Rest all things are good.

Campus life in Jadavpur University is awesome. The campus is quite big to explore (56 acres). the main campus is lush and green. It also has small size ponds which look good inside small gardens. The canteen inside provide cheap and refreshing food. There are many activities for fun. JU has various fests like Sanskriti, Srijan, Ibdita and many small fests from various societies and clubs. Joining those clubs helps to lead a better life with good connections.
