Institute of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Kanke, Ranchi; earlier known by the name “Ranchi Veterinary Institute" was one of the most applauded institutes in the veterinary field during its initial period. Currently, the lab facilities are average, faculties are quite less, but the maintenance of the campus’ greenery and providing a cozy environment to the students is something that will make you choose the institute. It is a privilege to be a Veterinarian and the place which makes you one is a place to worship. Most of the professors are hired on a contractual basis. The laboratory conditions need to be improved. You will pass most part of the semester by analyzing experiments and repetitive learning from notes and books.

The course offered here is BVSc & AH. The course is of 5.5 years with 4.5 years of academic study and 1 year of internship. To take admission in this course, one needs to complete their 11th and 12th with PCB and pass the entrance either conducted by the State or through NEET followed by All India Veterinary Counseling. People compassionate about animals and those who have enthusiasm for treating the innocent creatures must join the course. People focusing on treatment, love and compassion for animals will enjoy the degree rather than those seeking to make money through this. This course has high scope for Government jobs (Veterinary officers, professor, etc.) and also in private sector.

The faculties currently teaching give their best, but the facilities have limited them. In the coming years hopefully, our requirements will be fulfilled. Smart classes are well equipped, and notes provided to us are in digital formats. Pathology Department is great and also the clinics; although cases are less but a bit of exposure is still motivating for us willing to learn more daily.

Placement is mainly through Government initiated jobs. Placements arranged by the institute are less and the ones arranged were private with typically less packages.

Hostel mess is decent, and the girls’ hostels are managed by the students. Number of hostels is quite less as per the need of increasing number of students every year. Boys’ hostels are decent and provide double sharing rooms. The hostels are quite close to the institute and have a beautiful surrounding. Manmade lakes also inhabit ducks and fishes. Recreational activities are comparatively less but occasions like Janmashtmi, Saraswati Puja is well celebrated, and competitions are organised periodically. Sports day is celebrated every year, and the gymnasium ground has great space for the same.

Academic blocks for LPM, LPT, and Nutrition, etc. are separate and spacious. Though the Nutrition and Clinics Department requires renovation, but the conditions are improving and progressive to work upon. Main structure of the campus buildings is good and appealing. You will love the weather and greenery here. Postmortem facility is present and proper disposal is done to safeguard from diseases.

Campus is great and filled with fresh air and greenery. You will have a positive academic life with help of good professors here. Sports events are organised every year, proper clubs are currently not present but the life here is engaging throughout the year and will keep you entertained either with the occasion preparations, competitions, exams, etc.
