My experience at Techno India University as a student has been average overall. Some aspects of the university were worth commending, such as fests, extracurricular activities, student-faculty interaction, and campus life. However, the infrastructure is not advanced, especially for disciplines requiring wet lab training. Although, the university is making tremendous efforts in introducing Artificial Intelligence. I chose this university as it offered me an integrated course in Biotechnology.

The integrated Masters in Technology course of Biotechnology doesn't require any specific requirement. If you have managed to secure 60% or above in your 12th board results with PCM-B, you will easily be able to get admission in this department. Despite the fact that Mathematics is compulsory to pursue any program of technology, it is not the case of Biotechnology department. You can also get your admission through WBJEE and JEE rank. There are no minimum marks requirements for this, if you have appeared for this competitive exam, then it is well and good. You can also join Engineering disciplines as a lateral student from 2nd year and you have some flexibility to change your discipline in the first year if you feel so. Post-enrolling, you will enter into one of the most positive and nurturing departments, and your course instructors will keep you motivated throughout. Also for disciplines like MBA, you will get the chance to be part of international student visiting programs.

Faculty members of the Biotechnology department are real gem. Throughout my undergraduate program, whenever I faced any personal setback, they were there to encourage and guide me. All the faculties are PhD holders with their research fields varying from molecular biology, to bio-remediation, offering diverse insights to students. Some professors are unbeatable when it comes to teaching, attending just an hour of their class will enhance your overall understanding of the subject matter.

TIU has a placement cell. Companies like Accenture, TCS, and Cognizant regularly recruit students from our university. For placements, students have to go through pre-placement mock tests to ensure that they are well prepared. Further, all the departments have introduced aptitude and coding classes every week for students to help in their preparation. However, for departments like Biotechnology and Microbiology, the placement opportunities are extremely limited and scarce. Not many life-science-based companies visit our campus and thus the students are encouraged to go for higher studies.

Our university doesn't have hostel facilities. However, it helps students in coordinating with nearby PGs. The condition of PGs is alright, not that great.

The campus is not extravagantly huge. We have around 3 buildings, out of which one belongs to Techno Main Salt Lake. All the department classes take place in the front building which has around 7 floors and the top floor is office. The classrooms are sufficiently large to hold 70+ students. We also have a seminar hall and three grounds. The laboratories are alright. We also have canteen facilities.

TIU has its annual fest called ‘Sahotsava’ and it’s grand. Half of the university is involved in this fest. The university has several clubs for singing, dancing, writing, acting, modeling, and instrument playing and one can be part of these clubs by giving auditions. The fest lasts for usually 3-4 days with our final fest-day being organized in huge indoor halls, where several celebrities mark their presence. Several departmental activities such as extempore, quiz, poetry, and dance competitions are regularly organized. Additionally, we also have several international conferences and seminars where one can present their posters or give oral presentations. Campus life is excellent for someone who is extroverted and likes taking part in extracurricular activities. We also have our annual sports competitions which are extremely fun and competitive with several tournaments on football, volleyball, badminton, kabaddi, relay races, etc.
