MKSSS's Cummins College of Engineering for Women B.Tech Review By Vedika Kamane

MKSSS's Cummins is one of the top colleges for women when it comes to engineering. My overall experience in this college has been the best ever. I chose this college as it is an Autonomous college which is affiliated with Savitri Bai Phule Pune University; however, we follow our own curriculum which is inclined to the current industrial standards. The college offers five streams for undergraduate courses including Computer engineering, Information technology, Electronics and Telecommunication engineering, Instrumentation and Control engineering and Mechanical engineering. Cummins also has an honors and minors' program which provides extra credits to meritorious students.

Admission for an undergraduate course in this college is taken through two entrance examinations - JEE Mains and MHT-CET. There is also an option for a direct second year entry for diploma students. The minimum requirement for entry is to pass the 12th standard board examination with Physics, Chemistry and Math as the main subjects. The cutoffs through MHT-CET usually reach 96 percentile minimum and a maximum of 99.5 percentile.

I am in the Electronics and Telecommunication department. Most of our faculty members are Ph.D holders or are currently pursuing their Ph.D. Some of them are even Cummins alumni. Their style of teaching includes PowerPoint presentations, assignments and usage of tools such as a smart board. We have theory and practical courses with around 20-25 credits per semester. Our theory examinations are held thrice a semester- two Insems and one Endsem. We have projects, continuous assessment, practicals and vivas for our practical examination.

Our college has a Placement Cell which provides us with wonderful opportunities for both internships and placements. Some of the companies which visit our campus are Texas Instruments, Visa, Providence, MasterCard, Oracle, Marvel Semiconductors, Baxter, Citi, etc.

We do have a residential facility in our college. There are 3-seater rooms with common washrooms on each floor. Curfew timing is 9:00 PM. There is a good hostel campus with greenery. Lunch and dinner are provided.

Each department has a separate academic building with a department library. Apart from that, there is a common library with 2 study rooms, a digital library and a variety of journals and books available according to our needs. We have a clean and hygienic canteen on campus which serves vegetarian food. We also have a sports ground along with a basketball court for sports practice.

Our overall campus life is extremely lively with a crowd of smart girls. There are many clubs on our campus: both technical and non technical. Non technical clubs such as the debating society, the dance club, music club, dramatics club, etc. Technical clubs such as GDG on campus, AI club, code club, etc. There are also student chapters of IEEE, ISA, ACM and IETE. In a year, there are 3 fests held- Gandhaar (cultural fest), Innovation (Tech fest) and Pentacle (sports fest). The extracurricular activities are extremely vibrant. There is also NCC and NSS in the college.
