CBIT lacks in infrastructure but has taken care of all the other aspects
by Krishna N
'CBIT' high standards have started haunting the Institute in the last few years, as CBIT was right up there with NITs, IITs, and BITs at one point. The high standards set by the Institute can be gauged with the high standard intake that they have. IITJEE's scores that have missed IITs by a whisker are a part of CBIT and still, the Institute hasn't helped itself by building the best labs and Infrastructure looks odd to me. Growing up in Hyderabad, CBIT was the Institute which I aimed to study and become an engineer from and I became one. Few things were missed, but most things went right as placements at CBIT are still quite good and even the faculties of CBIT were amazing. The two of the most active clubs of the College are 'Chaitanya Smruthi' and 'Communicando'. Mine was MED (Mechanical Department) and one thing from my experience of CBIT is that it varies with the branches that it has.
The MED department was the toughest of all as we used to have around 30 lectures and 10 labs every week. Yet, MED lacked in many ways the computer labs and all were upgraded, but not the labs of MED. The labs were last updated some 20 years back and that has played a huge downfall of MED as the strength of every other department is increasing while ours is decreasing. The only lab which was setup in 2015 while I was studying was the 3D printing lab. CBIT was and is still the top-ranked College of EAMCET, but it's mostly because of the happy days that it has enjoyed in the past.
Apart from a few rotten apples which almost every College has, there was nothing to worry about in the faculty part. A total of 45 faculties were there in our branch and half of them were PhD's. The MED faculty was student-friendly as mechanical engineering needs a lot of patience because everything may not go right at the first go as it takes time to get the monkey off the back. Faculties showed faith and patience in students, and even with back-to-back lectures the faculty found a way out to give us some time off from lectures and have enough time for students for revision. No disrespect to even the rotten apples as they also gave us time to prepare and were at least available for doubt solving.
MED students could see students running back and forth during placements. The poorest placements of the College are for MED and because of which only half the students could get placed. I cursed myself for choosing MED as I was getting electrical branch, but the engineer in me was happy playing with machines. Only little did I knew that hard core lathe machines are now replaced with computers, and our demand has been following a declining trend. L&T, Punj Lloyd and others turned up and offered some wily placements, but to only half the students. I was in the half which couldn't have any placements even after maintaining a good CGPA, as it was destiny.
The hostel facilities were good, though I didn't avail any as I was from Hyderabad. The boy's hostel was huge as close to a thousand students stayed at the boy's hostel of the Institute. The building was big and facilitated with the facilities that helped make students' lives easy. They had power backup, nice dining halls, and a common room with TV to watch their favorite channels in the evening. I wish I could elaborate a little more, but that is all that I know about hostels.
No complaints with the size of the campus, but there are complaints with the facilities. Most facilities here are outdated as the College has been going at the speed of a tortoise in redeveloping the campus. Apart from the 3D lab, nothing new was brought to campus as labs are in dire conditions. Even the canteen has gone messy and some tidy stuff is required at the entire campus. There are not enough dustbins and no laws to protect the campus from students throwing garbage at will. I haven't been to campus since passing out, but I hope the changes have been made as it was required badly.
Apart from the two clubs that I mentioned at the start, the juniors of the College have brought in some amazing clubs like photography, singing and others. So, the clubs here are highly active and they ensure maximum participation during the cultural events of the College. In terms of events and fests, CBIT is better than NITs, at least not IITs. Hyderabad's best crowd studies at CBIT and making friends here takes seconds. The College never stops students from leaving the campus as per their will and we left the campus on various occasions between the classes and hung out in the close-by areas that had almost everything.

Studies at CBIT may not be the best but there are quite a few things that you can do at CBIT which you probably can’t do anywhere else. The university attained an autonomous status in 2013 and we were among the first batch of autonomous students. In providing facilities to the students, CBIT is the best. In terms of placement CBIT is the best in entire state. Other than CSE branch though students have issues as some of the MED (Mechanical Engineering Department) were completely outdated. Even ...
