Shivaji College B.A Review By Isha Jain

Honestly, I had my doubts while choosing this college but after being to various colleges of DU, I realized how my college was much better in almost everything i.e., infrastructure, crowd, faculty, location, etc. Hence, I am not ready to trade off this satisfaction. My college has the largest library and the sports complex. Its infrastructure is well maintained. The location unlike any other college is easy to reach and has access to the OG Rajouri Garden area where you can try places like Barbeque Nation along with “hunger nation”

Economics (Hons.) was something I wanted to do since I was in class 12th because I felt I was so in love with Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Mathematics altogether. Hence my teacher suggested me to look for opting Economics (Hons.). I researched a lot and understood that it is indeed a reputed degree and holds massive value in the market. About the eligibility, for Economics (Hons.) in Delhi University specifically, one has to attempt CUET with Math as a compulsory subject. So make sure to study well in Math if you want to pursue this course. If you are from the general category, my sincere advice is to score at least above 650 to get admission here.

Coming to the faculty, I can proudly say that as compared to any other faculty in DU my college has a great faculty- teaches well, is very understanding, clear out concepts, take doubt classes etc. Overall, you will be able to get a good CGPA if you study attentively in class and brush up your concepts regularly and not a day before exam. Keeping that aside, the faculty of VAC, SEC and Elective Courses may vary but 90% professors genuinely wish to teach at my college which is a huge number. They will make you learn not just the subject but will also guide you for your career as they are also aspiring aspirants. From the oldest to the youngest faculty, everyone holds a different skill set, which is a plus point at Shivaji.

Particularly talking about my college, it is average in terms of aggregate placements because not everyone gets a package of 15-24 LPA but yes there have been seniors who secured that much. The advantage is that the placement committee is improving year by year and the quality placements are being focused on. Additionally, the placement committee is quite approachable to always guide you even for you are off campus placements because they really have right kind of lead to make. So make sure you connect with the placement cell irrespective of your wish to have on campus or off campus placements. Companies like Deloitte, Accenture, and De Shaw have conducted the drive at Shivaji College.

My college does not provide any hostel facilities but since it is in Rajouri Garden, there are ample of PGs and flats to reside.

About the infrastructure, the college has 2 blocks: old and new (Jijabai) block. Where the old block gives a wholesome vintage vibe, the Jijabai block is more attractive to the modern crowd. Shivaji College was established in 1960s and speaking of the infrastructure maintenance, it has been better than any new colleges being setup so far. We have different labs including computer labs, science labs, maths labs, research lab etc. Every course has its own department to go to where there are specific staffrooms and labs allocated. In the old building, we have our library, which is a giant room with different floors, and the biggest library in Delhi University. We have numerous books with different authors to help not just in your degrees but also in any other side hustle course you are enrolled in. Our sports complex is right in front of our college, which is a huge ground, and no other sports field can actually compete with it. There is a huge sitting space called Hawa Mahal at college where all the students after their classes in the gap of 1 hour do hangout. It is necessary visit being a student here. Last but definitely not the least, our college comprises of 4 auditoriums, 3 being in the Jijabai block and one in the old building with massive seating and considered as the "main auditorium.” It is best for any cultural event while the ones in the Jijabai block are best for seminars and stuff.

Talking about the campus life, as soon as you will enter the college as a fresher you can see that there are people from dance, music, and drama societies practicing and planning for your cultural orientation. Throughout the year many events happen with respect to every society. Each society has its own annual event which comprises of competitions like case presentations, mock stock, business plan, dance competition, art competition etc. The college has various clubs and societies divided into three variants departmental, academic, and cultural society. Every department has their own society i.e. Economics Society has an Ecosoc called Epitome where you have that proper council, heads and member hierarchy. About the academic societies like TEDx, Enactus, Spade, E-Cell etc., there exists a lot more that will give you a different kind of Cred and exposure to add in your freshers CV for sure. The cultural societies majorly comprise of 8 societies- drama, debating, dance, music, fine arts, photography, fashion, and the main cultural itself which is responsible for conducting the annual fest. Our annual fests called "vibrations" take place in Feb-March which is held in the sports complex and is a 2 day event that calls for artists and DJ and includes various inter college competitions as well.
