Techno Main Salt Lake BBA Review By Rehba Alvi

There’s something about TISL that once I step into the college, I just can’t switch off myself as I see the best crowd of the city around me. The students look ambitious while some have dedicated themselves completely to cultural activities as they have come here just to showcase their other talents. Also, you will never know what will happen next. There are chances that you get news that all the lectures have been cancelled today and there are chances that you may know that you will have to dance your heart out today as the jam sessions have been arranged at the institute. In short, TISL was like the best cake wrapped and delivered to me. I had so much fun that it would be hard to explain all of it in words.

I went to the college with very little expectations as I had 60 percent in my 12th and after getting rejected from St. Xaviers, Goneka and other colleges, I thought TISL was nothing because they are giving admissions to anybody who comes to their doorsteps. Well, I was wrong as I say many students have joined this college at will as BBA of TISL is one of the best courses in Kolkata. BBA students from here have landed at IIMs because along with BBA, we were taught analytics, and other stuff that were to be prepared for MBA entrances. One had to come charging down because internals and all were taken quite seriously here. Only the attendance part where you can break the rules and get away as 75% attendance was said to be fulfilled but 80% of the students didn’t have over 50% and still all the faces were seen at the exams.

I haven’t seen faculties in trouble at all because managing such a rash batch of students like we had was not easy. We used to make fun of them and dance on table tops in the classes and sometimes were even caught but still the faculties just laughed them out. I felt so weird at times that I had to hide my face from them but they were those comforters that one talks with them and ice will be broken in seconds. For their honesty, and dedication I can admire them all my life.

Look, saying that placements were poor will be too critical. Some students had offers of 2.5 lakhs while some even had offers worth 6 lakhs and then there were some like me who had no offers at all. So, all three categories of students were there because college did their part by getting the companies for recruitment. Even the T&P cell actively and closely worked with students but since those classes weren’t mandatory, I along with some of my friends missed it as we thought we had just a few months left at the college. As they say Karma Hits You Back, it did when during the interviews, I was asked basic questions and I had no answers for them. So, placements exist here but for those who need it badly and are ready to drill for it.

TISL doesn’t have a hostel facility and they have figured it out by outsourcing some private hostels in Salt Lake by taking total control of it. So, technically it can be said that TISL has hostel facilities which are around 500m from the campus. Students though prefer staying in flats and PGs in Salt Lake as this area is fully crowded with students, so finding accommodation was never going to be a tough task.

TISL campus is quite big and because most students come here with their own vehicles, there are three parking areas. One is reserved for staff and students can use the other two. There are two gates through which one can enter the college. During my time, there were three buildings operational and one was on its way to getting ready. All the classrooms and labs are fully air-conditioned. Needless to say, that auditorium and seminar halls too were air-conditioned. Not one but there were two grounds out of which one was multipurpose as college events and some guest lectures were organized on the ground. There were two café’s and an outlet of CCD inside the campus.

I enjoyed my campus life to the core and even though my family used to have reservations, I never distanced myself from getting involved with club activities. I was also an active member of the committee that used to organize the college's annual fest 'ANAKHRONOS'. All in all, TISL has a lovely set up and the best crowd in the city. Students from here were seen hopping to nearby restaurants and clubs as spotting TISL students in some of the most happening places of the city was quite common.
