KLE Law College Moots, MUN, and More

I had a good experience overall in this college as it provided me exposure on various topics of law, career options and competitions. As compared to various colleges across the state it has good library resources and e-legal database for the students to conduct course and preliminary research. The college has been established in the year 1975 and the focus usually is on making the students opt for litigation. The college is affiliated to KSLU before and from the 2021-2022 batch. The college is affiliated to the private University i.e. K.L.E Technological University, Huballi. With affiliation to new University its focus is slowly turning towards emerging areas of law. The college has a nearly strict attendance policy.

The college offers courses in 5 Year B.A.LLB/BBA.LL.B/BCOM.LL.B., 3 Year LL.B and 2 Year LL.M. in Constitutional Law and IPR/I.T Law. With respect to the admission process the college primarily looks into the scores obtained in 12th Standard board exams and scores in LSAT and CLAT would be beneficial additionally. The college conducts an additional interview for student candidates not having the required score in the 12th Board exams. The college finally releases the list of selected students after this procedure. In the erstwhile KSLU syllabus, the students had an 80-20 pattern examinations out of which 80 marks were allotted for the final semester exams. 20 marks would be evaluated by the college. The score is bifurcated as 10 Mark Test + 5 Mark Research Assignment+ 5 Mark Presentation. The new syllabus of the KLE Tech University has a different assessment pattern which includes practical assignments too. The college does have co-curricular activities like moots, MUN, conferences (including areas of law like consumer protection, data privacy and data protection, archaeological and antiquarian law, etc), seminars, soft skills training, etc. In collaboration with other governmental and non-governmental organizations there are field visits occasionally to gain practical insights. The college does have facility for coaching for exams like KPSC, UPSC and Judiciary.

The fee structure is different for the K.L.E Tech batches. With more changes to the course syllabus and academics for the batches affiliated to KLE Tech there has been an increase in the amount of fee. The fee structure is different for the domiciled and non domiciled students and the students belonging to the SC/ST Category. (Details as to the current fee structure can be enquired from the admission counselor).

The college has a minimum qualification for the entry level post of assistant professor that is, they need to be at least UGC-NET qualified or be a Ph.D Holder. There are Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors. Also there are guest lecturers and guest faculties that include practicing advocates, professors from other institutes and occasionally even government servants. The teaching methods generally include general teaching sessions, PPT's, discussions and other methods. The faculties are approachable from my experience and they have helped me out on co-curricular aspects like moots, research articles, internships, etc. I personally do not have information as to the number of faculties and students. Few faculties who have been in litigation previously have good command over procedural laws.

The college primarily focuses on Litigation so the focus was relatively less on other law related jobs like in house counsel or law firm associate. However the Placement cell is making its efforts to bring in more placements in terms of jobs in terms of in house counsels. However few students have been successful in working as juniors to designated senior counsels. The college is making efforts to bring in proper trainers for relevant soft and hard skills development required for placements. Some students have found placements through the references by alumni. A significant number of students have found their work through their place of internships. Most of the students usually opt for litigation. When it comes to internships students mostly prefer to secure it on their own and college also posts about few of the internships in its dedicated group.

Since I stay with my parents in the city I commute from my own house and I don’t have much idea about this.

The college was situated in Rajajinagar before and now its situated in Ullal Upanagara. With the college trying to steadily increase its facilities there may be an expansion of infrastructure and change in location. The college is 17 Km's away from the Karnataka High Court. The college is a 6 floored building having a large sized auditorium, AV Room, 3 floored library with significant number of books and e learning resources. The college does have a canteen and a cafeteria and classrooms do have projectors. The class rooms have a seating capacity for 40-55 members. When it comes to bigger cultural and sporting events the college conducts it outside as there is a little crunch of space for such events. The library has sufficient variety of books ranging from academic and reference books, law journals, law reporters, magazines, etc. along with e-legal databases like SCC online, Manupatra, Hein Online, West Law, etc.

The college crowd is a mix of different level of intellectual capabilities ranging from average to excellent. Some students are regular participants in moots and have even won prices in them. Some alumni’s have managed to obtain their masters from Universities abroad including Queen Mary University in UK and even one of them managed to get into Cambridge University, UK. Some students managed to get internships in good law firms and under designated senior counsels. There are decent amount of clubs and I had worked in the legal aid committee which is now slightly picking up its pace. In the campus there are relatively less number of cultural fests however the Entrepreneurial Fest called 'CHANAKYA' is one of the highlights of the college.
