IHM Chennai is one of the top most institutes of Hotel Management in India. Its major positives are good placement record, best academic facilities, and good faculties. Hostel and mess facilities are also good here. It comes in top 5 ranked Hotel Management Institute in India. Previously, it also came at 28th position in the world regarding placements. Classes are regularly conducted with focus on each student and faculties are focused on giving student best knowledge.

This course will help you to build certain skills like Communication, Personality Development, and Customer Handling. This course includes providing knowledge in various areas such as Food production where students are taught about several cuisines around the world with recipes as well as making process. Students also understand the nuances of food and beverage services of foods in 5 star restaurants and its ethics. The course also trains student about front office, where they learn about front desk customer handling and its etiquettes. Some extra subjects are for general understanding like basic Accounts, Food Nutrients, Engineering, and Maintenance. Classrooms have all the facilities such as good Practical labs for each department, using of projector as well as digital screen for better understanding of syllabus. As far as classes are concerned, students tends to attend practical classes more than the theoretical one.

Fee structure for the academic year 2018-21 is elaborated in this section. For 1st semester, the total fee is Rs. 74,110. Total fee for 2nd semester is Rs. 42,200. This included criteria like tuition fee: Rs. 39,700 and IHM/NCHM exam fee Rs. 2,500. For 3rd semester, the total fee is Rs. 49,950. This included criteria like tuition fee: Rs. 40,600, student activity fee: Rs. 300. Med. exam fee: Rs. 100, brochure and calendar fee: Rs. 200, magazine fee - 50 internal exam fee: Rs. 400, ID card: Rs. 100, IHM/NCHM exam fee: Rs. 2m500, environment fee: Rs. 20, IGNOU enrollment fee: Rs. 4,860, Medical Insurance fee: Rs. 620, and handouts fee: Rs. 200. For 4th semester, the total fee is Rs. 43,100. This included criteria like tuition fee: Rs. 40,600 and IHM/NCHM Exam fee: Rs. 2,500. For 5th semester, the total fee is Rs. 49,860. This included criteria like tuition fee: Rs. 37,250, student activity fee: Rs. 300, med. exam fee: Rs. 100, brochure and calendar fee: Rs. 200, magazine fee: Rs. 50, internal exam fee: Rs. 400, ID card fee: Rs. 100, IHM/NCHM fee: Rs. 200, environment fee: Rs. 20, IGNOU enrollment fee: Rs. 4,620, medical insurance fee: Rs. 620, handouts fee: Rs. 200, and uniform fee: Rs. 4,000. For 6th semester, the total fee is Rs. 39,250. This included criteria like tuition fee: Rs. 37,250 and IHM/NCHM Exam fee: Rs. 2,000. This makes the total fee for 3 years course Rs. 2,98,000. The hostel fee was Rs. 60,000 per year. Yes the fees structure have been changed currently and has increased from past. A currently total course fee is Rs. 4,41,000.

Faculties were good at tutoring, especially in practical classes. They pay attention to each individual. Some of the best were Mathew chef, Michael sir, and Jitendra sir. Faculties are easily approachable and supportive towards student's learning.

As I said, IHM Chennai has good reputation of placement. We have a placement cell that manages all these and brings many recruiters to the campus like Taj, ITC, Hyatt, Leela Palace, and many more 5 star hotels. Good Retails as well as QSR companies come to hire freshers like Reliance, Aditya Birla, McDonald's, KFC, Starbucks, etc. The average, which you can get here, is around 3 LPA.

Hostel rooms were decent. Mess food was ok. Boys and girls hostels are separate. Hostel had strict rules and regulations by warden about timings in and out of campus. Hostel fee was Rs. 60,000 per year, which will be allotted at the time of course admission. Nightlife is bit restrictive during 1st and 2nd year, as there were certain timings of hostels in and out. These timings were for 1st year – 6:30 PM, 2nd year - 7.30 PM. and for 3rd years - 8.30 PM. You can go out on special permissions from warden.

Campus of IHM Chennai has 2 buildings called annexure 1, which is a main building where offices and administrative offices are there including placement cell, principal chamber, Accounts department, and HOD office. 2nd one is annexure 2, which is a new building where mostly theoretical classes happen. It also has library as well as computer rooms. The backside of campus has hostels and staff quarters. Institute also has canteen and medical facilities. It also has sports ground but not so big. Some of the sports available are cricket. Football, badminton court, and basketball court.

Every year, food fests happen where all different types of cuisines also made. We also celebrated other religious festive like Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam and Pongal (which is local festive). We also participated in much government initiative like Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan and Prayatna Parv organized by our institute. Locality was good with all necessary things available around 2 KM only outside the campus.
