Handique Girls College, Guwahati: Campus Highlights & Student Life

I got into Handique Girls College in the August 2023. This college is under the affiliation of Guwahati University. The institute has experienced teachers and staffs that will help you cover the entire syllabus and even provide extra classes if required. The college campus is well maintained, has a big basketball court, one open stage for grand functions and a canteen with affordable prices. Overall, it is a good college and you will surely make real good memories here.

Handique Girls College is one of the oldest colleges in Guwahati and is popular due to its good result every year. I am pursuing my BA (Hons.). For this college, no entrance exam is required yet. It follows the four-year plan for my course. I am currently pursuing major in Psychology. My main reason for choosing this course is my deep interest in the subject of Psychology. The whole admission process is not very complicated either, but you will have to visit the college and do the needful in person. The college carries out one set of mid terms and finals in each semester. The syllabus of each semester is different and sometimes too much to study for, but if you attend your lectures regularly it should not be an issue.

Since the college is a government-based college, the fee structure is very reasonable. There are also several scholarships and other schemes to benefit the students. The college fee for each semester is different, but so far, everything has been under Rs. 6,000, excluding the registration fee and other formalities. The registration fee also will not cost you more than Rs. 1,000. So overall, it is reasonable.

Faculty members are experienced and very helpful. They have a good academic background and give good exposure to the students. Guest faculties are invited frequently and seminars are held. The teachers use PPTs, blackboards, and even classroom activities to teach students and help us grasp concepts better. The professors are very friendly with the students and provide help whenever needed. The concepts taught in the class does not just convey the academic idea to students but also help us to carry home a learning outcome from it, and deal with real life problems effectively.

There are several companies and organizations that visit and contact students for offering jobs. There are numerous internship opportunities as well to help us learn new skills. The college gives reference of several job opportunities, offers, and deals.

Yes, the college has hostel facilities. However, you will need to have a good academic score to get a seat. Since I am a day scholar, I will not be able to comment much about the hostel facilities.

The campus is well maintained with beautiful seasonal flowers, lots of greenery, and cleanliness. The area is student friendly with several other colleges nearby. There is college library and in the library building, there are 2 floors. All the academic books are available. However, the maintenance can be better. The classrooms are well maintained as well, but some of them need maintenance. There are Microbiology, Chemistry, and other labs in the campus. The college canteen is good, has affordable prices for the food, and is hygienic as well. There is a Nescafe stand too inside the campus.

The campus is not very big but works. There are several clubs available for students to join such as the literary club, creative writing club, etc. There are also annual trips organized by the college. Recently some students went on an excursion trip to Amritsar and Manila. In the month of January or February, college week is organized with lots of fun games and competitions. There are several events organized by the college, which include farewell, fresher’s, college week full of games, rallies by each departments, debate events, etc.
