Centurion University BBA Review By Ananya Mohapatra

Centurion University is regarded as one of the best universities of East but I would still doubt to say that because in our country girls have got equal rights but not the equal pay and likewise universities of two-tier cities somewhere restrict girls from many opportunities. I am not playing the victim card here truth has to prevail. Firstly, the fees is quite high as Bhubaneswar maybe the capital of a state but the state comes as one of the most underdeveloped states of India. People here don’t have this kind of money and still they pay in the hope that they will have a better future. Well, for a better future better placement are required and in BBA, the placements were absolutely nil. Those who say that they were placed from Centurion University Bhubaneswar after doing BBA are lying because the campus didn’t present us any opportunity.

The course was good as I had some friends in top Indian colleges like NM and Symbiosis and more or less, we studied the same topics and subjects. BBA course though require a certain amount of exposure and some boys were sent on live projects while girls were asked to do the assignments or attend guest lectures. How is this far but Centurion University thinking it is fair. So, in terms of exposure I got nothing as BBA was more like becoming a book worm here as because I had nothing much to do in terms of exposure or workshops, I thought of studying and in 5 out of 6 semesters, I was my class topper. The one advantage though of getting first was that I was waived off 50% of my fees. So, the scholarship was the only positive about academics here because I didn’t had the slightest of idea how work at corporate are done as we never saw any such thing.

Faculties were good but again 9 out of 10 professors where male as the university might be thinking that just like old cliché of women can’t drive, they can’t also teach. However, even the male professors were good as one can address all their issues to them as I raised a lot of issue but the only answer that I got from their end was that the final call will be management’s and we can’t do anything about it.

I have already spoken about it that for BBA there were no placements. A no means no as none of us were sent for interview than how can one get placed. So, the university has spread some false information on their ads and websites because at least till 2017, there were no placements for BBA course. Engineering students still were placed because a lot of IT companies came and took the engineers. They didn’t even look at the BBA students as we probably don’t bring any value or can increase their net worth. Well, fair enough from their part as we couldn’t bring new to the table for sure after doing a course which just gave us theoretical knowledge.

Out of 12 hostels that the university has three were for girls that combined had a capacity of accommodating around 1000 girls. The hostels were nice as rooms were maintained and properly ventilated. Bhubaneswar is among the safest cities in India and Centurion University hostels were no different as no intruders can even imagine of getting in there. The hostels were guarded with 3-4 guards at the ground floor and an entire team was monitoring each floor of the hostel that had CCTV cameras in it. For girls though there were certain restrictions of what to wear and all as girls were not allowed to step out of their rooms in shorts and other such stuffs.

The university is big as there are many colleges of the university inside that 40 acres of lush green land. The infrastructure was a landscape or land marvel as buildings, roads, bathrooms, and every other damn thing were kept tidy over here. Mopping of each floors of the building was completed before the college hours. Infrastructure wise the university campus was at par with the likes of almost all top universities of India. If I have to mention that one part of the infrastructure that was the most attractive then that is without a doubt the cafeteria of the campus.

Orissa’s culture is different from various other states as we have our own trends, festivals, and stuffs. There were students from other states of India and introducing them to our culture is what was done through university events. Centurion University even has some foreign students from countries like Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal, and Nigeria. The annual Gayajyoti was one way a bonding program at the university as students used to live, dance, eat, and forget all their sorrows during the fest.
