SCAC Pune: Cosmopolitan Campus with Diverse Opportunities

SCAC Pune offers a wide range of choices, amenities, activities, and career guidance to its students. It is a very cosmopolitan college, as people from all over the world come to study here. My experience in this college as a second-year student is, I would say, very satisfying. I live in the hostel itself, which is located beside the campus. The mess is also very hygienic and the food prepared there is nutritious for health. Every day the menu is changed. The main factor I chose this college is because of its reputation, and now I know why it is such. I would suggest this college to other students who are willing to join due to its infrastructure, reputation, and curriculum. We have all kinds of events and no-ragging policy.

The course I chose is Bachelor of Commerce with ACCA and the reason is that I want to be an Accountant in the future. The entry level for Commerce is a cut-off of 85% and the entry level for Arts is around 95%. The administration process will consist of emailing or contacting the college. After which, the verification of the documents will take place by the administration office to see if the student is eligible to join or not. After these steps, the final process will conclude by the payment of fee (if accepted) and the student can start his/her college life.

The fee for my course B. Com with ACCA ranges around Rs. 2,00,000 every semester and Rs. 4,00,000 yearly. Tuition fee is Rs. 2400 Administration, registration fee is Rs. 70,000, and Other charges are Rs. 30,000. If a student has applied for scholarships from their previous alma mater and if the college accepts, it will get free education and a stipend of Rs. 8,000 a month.

The faculty member who teaches us ACCA (the main course) is CA Sumeet Maru. The faculty members here are all from their respective hometowns, some are local, and some have come from afar to teach. The method of teachings is a mix of PPTs, group discussions, and the use of smart-boards. The problem solving abilities of the faculty is top-notch given the fact that they are always working for the student’s betterment. The teacher to student ratio must be around 30/70, I believe. The teachers here are all approachable, even the labor-staff. They are always ready to help anyone who seeks assistance.

The college itself does the placements. The placement cell helps students get a job in the industry of their specialization by calling companies to test their mettle/skills. If a student wants to be placed, he/she must have a minimum of 70% attendance in his/her classrooms in all subjects. In addition, the student should not have any backlogs. A few companies that visit the college for recruitment are Deloitte, TCS, Deutsche Bank, Federal Bank, Northern Trust, Wipro, HDFC Bank, etc. The average package offered by the recruiters is 5.24 LPA and the highest package is 23.05 LPA. I have not gone for any placements so far, but I will do so in the next semester.

The academic block of the college consists of 3 main buildings (Commerce, Arts, and Statistics). The campus size is huge because it consists of 5 buildings. The locality is SB Road, Pune, Maharashtra. The classrooms can hold up to 60+ students at a time. The college consists of all academic facilities like the library, labs, seminar hall, auditorium, counselor’s office, etc. The college has a canteen, a table tennis court (sadly only this one in sports), and a medical facility consisting of different doctors in their individual professions (from dentist to an orthopedic surgeon). About the transport, sadly, the college does not have its own bus so the students have to manage transport by themselves but there is a parking lot. There are guards in all perimeters of the college 24/7 providing safety and security to us. My favorite place in the college is the canteen due to its ambience and of course the delicious food. The facilities all come together in making a student's life easier in the college, from academics to health. One such example would be the college psychiatrist or counselor, whose services are free for the students.

My overall campus life has been very fun and satisfying, balancing the student life with studies and having fun. I want to leave with good memories and not just high grades because I know this will never happen again in my life. I will not be able to experience college as a student later in life. The crowd is very cosmopolitan, of course, there are a few bad apples around, but I guess that is everywhere. There many clubs in SCAC Pune ranging from finance to arts (Liberal Arts included) to fun. Personally, I am in the Finance Club. Extracurricular activities are always present with numerous clubs being present and of course the blazing events during the festivities. The main annual event is called ‘Symagine’, where the students dance and eat food while a live-performance is being held by whichever artist is present. My experience personally has been very satisfying, with all the facilities and conveniences available to me. I am sure most students will like it too.
