Gujarat National Law University BA+LLB Review By Laxmi Verma

Gujarat National Law University is recognized as one of the most renowned universities in the field of law. It was established in 2003 and has a number of prominent graduates as its alumni. It offers admission at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Even the NAAC has granted it Grade A accreditation. In the recently released NIRF ranking, GNLU scored 6th rank. It is a distinguished university that offers admission via the CLAT entrance exam, which is administered by Consortium. Students are assigned seats based on their rankings. The management of the college is generally good, headed by various faculty members and student representatives along with our vice-chancellor.

I am in the second year of my BA LLB programme. Last year, luckily I got admission in GNLU by scoring a desirable rank in CLAT. I joined this course because of the significance it holds in the legal field. Moreover, I took Humanities in my high school and pertaining to my inclination towards subjects like Economics, International Relations, Sociology, I considered this stream as the right option for me. The law subjects are common for all streams. The stream subjects are well-chosen with respect to their relevance with law and the faculty members are much higher than what I expected. Even the research projects given to us have proved really helpful in the application of law with various other streams and boosted our knowledge. Furthermore, I really think all the courses provided by GNLU are fairly good from the perspective of placements and jobs.

The faculty members of GNLU are highly experienced and professional and hold a teaching experience of at least 8 years. There are a number of faculty members offered for each course along with research assistants. The curriculum and course outlines are also well framed according to contemporary developments. Most of the faculty members hold a doctoral degree along with numerous publications under their names. Many of them are authors of well- known books. Apart from this, teachers are really student- friendly and very dedicated towards giving their best during lectures.

GNLU placement cell facilitates placements and recruitment process for fourth and fifth year students and also provides internships from the third year of undergraduate programmes. Placements are conducted stage by stage, beginning from pre-placements, zero day, interviews etc. Most of the students who aspire to take corporate jobs get an insight into the recruitment process by various lectures and orientations organized by senior partners of tier I and II law firms. The highest package is up to Rs. 24 lacs and around 75 percent students get placements through CRA.

Firstly, hostel facilities are compulsory for every student enrolled in GNLU. The residential facilities for both boys and girls are different. Girls’ hostel facilities are comparatively better than boys’ hostel with the ease of attached washroom area. The boys’ hostel, on the other hand, have community washrooms on every floor. Moreover, there are recreation rooms available in hostels with a LED for watching movies and series. The cleaning staff and helpers in the hostel clean rooms once every two days. The wardens are very supportive and caring in nature.

GNLU campus is very famous for its aesthetically pretty infrastructure. It has an area of 60 acres and beyond. The hostels are uniquely designed and built in a circular way. The lecture halls are spacious enough and the ventilation is proper. They are also air- conditioned. The library is three storeyed, furnished with desks and inbuilt charging spots. The mess is air-conditioned with a night mess which serves midnight snacks at a very cheap price. Apart from this, GNLU also focuses on extra-curricular activities, and has constructed a basketball court, football field, music room and dance room. There is a cafeteria and a multi-purpose store on campus as well. Furthermore, the university also provides medical facilities which can be utilized by students.

The campus life on GNLU is no less than a dream, if one learns to balance between academics and fun time. There are a lot of clubs to organize activities on campus on a weekly and monthly basis. The Student Activities Club hosts a quiz on Wednesday evenings. When the vibe of campus seems to be off, the music club organizes jamming sessions to fill the ambience with excitement. The dance club and theatre club conduct flash mobs and drama frequently. Apart from this, many open mics and debates and discussions are also hosted by students. From my experience, I believe that everyone on campus is very helpful, helpful and welcoming. During ‘even’ semesters (from January to May), lots of fests such as ‘Pentagram’ and sports week such as ‘Justice League’ are organized that create a very lively atmosphere on the campus.
