Alipurduar University Fee Structure and Scholarship

First of all, the reason why I took admission in Alipurduar University was because I had not many options as I couldn't get admission in other Government University and couldn't afford studying at private Universities. Now, coming on my overall experience here is that I liked the leniency of the University and teachers for attendance. I did not like the infrastructure, faculty members and placements much here.

I chose B.Com at Alipurduar University because there were not many options in the Commerce department of this University. The eligibility criteria to get admission in this University is that the student must pass their 12th from any board with a minimum of 60% and If you are selected in the merit list then can get admission in this University. The admission process is simple too. You just need to apply for admission through WBCAP website and then after you are selected in merit list and your documents are physically verified. Then you can take admission here. Exams in my University are held after every 6 months on semester basis. I would say that the academic curriculum here is outdated and doesn't prepare you for present industry.

The entire course fee in Alipurduar University is Rs. 10,500 which is divided into 4 years. The admission and registration fee is Rs. 2,000. Other than that, you need to purchase books on your own. Exam fees are charged separately. Yes, we do get scholarship named Swami Vivekananda merit cum means scholarship which is a West Bengal State Scholarship. This provides Rs. 12,000 per year for all, the University, hostel, books, phone and laptop expenses.

Talking about the faculty members, then there are very few faculty members in Alipurduar University. In my department we only have 2 teachers who teach all the subjects in all the semesters. They teach in the same outdated bookish way using blackboards and are not able to make us experience and gather knowledge about present industry as assignments. As it is a government University, the teachers here are very strict.

In Alipurduar University, we don't have a placement cell and also there are no internship opportunities provided. Students have to apply for off campus placements. Students in my University generally apply for off campus placements or start their own venture or carry on further studies.

I am not a hostel student so I don't have much knowledge about it. I can say that there are two hostels, one for boys and one for girls which are situated just beside the University. The hostel building is old and the rooms are very decent. There is also mess facility available and there are not much food options.

Infrastructure of Alipurduar University is below average. The University building is divided in two sections. There is one huge U shaped building for all the departments and another small U shaped building especially for Commerce department. Both are old. Total number of students in my class are 33. We do have labs and library but don't have seminar hall, auditorium, conference hall, etc. Canteen facility is also available. Sports are not given much importance here. The University size is definitely big but is mostly just empty land.

Campus life at Alipurduar University is mediocre here. The crowd here is huge but there are no fests or events organized except freshers and farewell party. There are also no clubs in the University. My experience was average. I used to attend the classes and give exams. and that boring life in University.
