Alipurduar University: Decent Government University in West Bengal

Overall Rating
I chose Alipurduar University because I had to prepare for competitive exams and just needed a basic graduation degree so I took admission in this university. There are some factors where the university needs to improve like infrastructure, placements, faculty and university life. Overall I would say that if you are a student who just wants a basic degree can take admission here but don't expect much from it.
 

Academics Rating
I chose this course because this course's syllabus is very much similar to the competitive exam I am preparing for and is relevant to it. The eligibility criteria for taking admission in Alipurduar University are very basic. You just need to bring total marks of 60% in your 10+2 examinations to get selected here. The admission process is also very simple. You just need to apply through a website and can get admission here. Exams are held here after every 6 months in my course. The course curriculum is quite outdated and doesn't prepare for real life industry knowledge.
The total fee charged by Alipurduar University is just Rs. 10,500 which is very affordable for 4 years. Apart from that admission and registration fees are Rs. 2,000 which is charged separately. Exam fees are charged by the university after 6 months for each semester. Books are needed to be purchased separately. Yes, we do get a scholarship named Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship which provides Rs. 12,000 per year for all expenses.
 

Faculty Rating
Faculty members are very less in my department. There are only 2 teachers who teach all the subjects in all the semesters which is I don’t like that much. They also teach in the outdated method using books and blackboard only. Assignments are also given the same way. The teachers at Alipurduar University are though well mannered, supportive and sometimes they are strict. The use of PPTs and group discussion is not used here.
 

Placement Rating
There is no placement cell currently in Alipurduar University. There are no internship opportunities provided from the university. There are no company visits in the university campus too. Students need to apply for off campus placements or start their own venture or opt for higher education.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, we do have a university hostel as well in our Alipurduar University. The boys and girls hostel are separated. Other than this I don't have much knowledge about the hostel as I am a day scholar.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The campus is divided into two blocks; one is the huge one for all the departments and the other is small and is just for the Commerce department as there are many students from commerce department only. The campus is huge which is surrounded by greenery and gardens. The classrooms are pretty small in the Commerce department which adjusts a seating capacity of 30 students. We also have labs and libraries. We don't have seminar hall, auditorium, conference hall, and cafeteria.
 

Campus Rating
The overall campus life is average and nothing much interesting. The university crowd is huge but most of them don't come to the university. There are clubs in our university but they are political clubs. The university doesn't engage much on extracurricular activities. There are very limited fests and events held in university like the fresher’s party and senior's farewell. In a nutshell, the university majorly focuses on studies only and doesn't have an interesting campus life like other government and private universities.
