Pondicherry University: Top Courses, Fees, and Cultural Diversity

Pondicherry University is a central university that is one of the best institutions across the country it is situated in Puducherry. It is among the top 10 central universities in India. It provides us with good and clean environment in the university that is filled with the greenery, as it is situated on the seashore. We can even visit beach. Due to its reputation across the nation, we can also see various kinds of cultures and people. While coming to the events conducted in the university, the events are frequently held on a grand level. In one word, we can describe our university as unity in diversity.

I have chosen the course Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. As we all know, it is a good course and it is going to play an important role in the upcoming days as we are progressing in the development of science. I've chosen this department due to the same motive. To join this course we should get qualified in CUET examination, which is held once a year for both UG and PG courses. After announcement of results, we should apply for admission and seat will be given based on merit of marks. The tests are of 3 types, which are external or main semester examination, second internal, or mid semester examination along with seminar, project, and assignments (in both digital and manual method). By choosing this course, I'm gained much confidence that I can learn the techniques, which are very essential for my research related field. We should also take soft-core subjects that are essential part of our curriculum with which we can get knowledge on various subjects along with our own subject.

For 1st semester, tuition fee is Rs. 23,042. For 2nd semester, tuition fee is Rs. 3,200, For 3rd semester, tuition fee is Rs. 23,042. For 4th semester, tuition fee is Rs. 3,200. In case of the hostel fee, students have to pay Rs. 19,388 during 1st semester and after that for the rest of the time, they have to pay Rs. 9,040. Mess fee may change according to the menu that would be provided to us. Students can apply for scholarships such as NSP, Jindal Foundation Scholarship, HDFC, SBI, etc.

Faculty members who are teaching us are very experienced. The professors along with the HOD are having their doctorates and post doctorate degrees by doing vast research in their particular field. Each one of them is from various places but most of them are from Tamil Nadu. Though they teach us in English for sake of every student. Our professors teach us through Ppts. the teacher student ratio is 1:50. Our lecturers are very interactive with us and we can even consult them for any personal guidance other than the academics.

The placement ratio is quiet average in our university while comparing to the bigger institutions. We have placement cell in our university. They help us by contacting companies to let them visit us and often conducting placement drives especially for the final year students. Institutions like Allen visit us along with the banking companies like HDFC, etc. Package starts from 7 LPA to 15 LPA. Even though they are average while comparing to other institutions, it is quite impressive for the freshers to get reasonable amount.

Hostels here are well equipped. We can get a spacious room in triple sharing along with cupboards, cot, study table, and chairs. There are 2 hostels for UG, first year PG boys and 4 for PhD and 2nd year PG boys. Girl’s hostels are 7 in number, which are located at the distance of 800 meter from boy’s hostels. Mess food has n average. Hostels don’t have any in and out timings, while mess timings are 7:30 to 9:30 AM for breakfast, 12:30 to 2:30 PM for lunch, and 7:30-9:30 PM for dinner. I personally feel very comfortable while staying here.

Our campus is built in 800 acres of land, which is a large area. Infrastructure of each building is very good. It is situated outside the Pondicherry city on the Chennai Highway, which is quite reachable and present near the shore. Classrooms are quiet large which can fit upto 100 students and we have 2 auditoriums which can fill upto 1200 students along with each department contains seminar hall. There are 4 canteens and 2 large grounds, which is suitable for every sport along with indoor stadium for badminton tennis. I personally like gardens here. Both facilities and infrastructure is of top quality.

My overall campus life is quiet good and I'm enjoying every bit of it. Our university consists of 2000 students. There are many clubs and association in our university. I was a part of SFI. Coming to extracurricular activities, our university stands front. They encourage extracurricular activities on par with academics. We can enjoy events and fests frequently along with discussion programs quiz competition and workshops in various departments. Finally my experience is the one that cannot be expressed in words, rather one personally should experience by coming to this university.
