Government Engineering College Idukki: Admission Through KEAM

Overall experience is average. Government Engineering College offers good atmosphere for studies. I got admission through KEAM entrance exam. Like all other engineering colleges, we have good infrastructure and technology. The climate of the college is also good.

I chose Electrical & Electronics Engineering because I like to study core subjects like electrical. Entry is only through entrance exam named KEAM entrance. Students who completed science in higher secondary can apply that entrance. Students must pass the entrance exam. Admission process is based on the allotment process by entrance commissioner. The process can be lengthy as we need to go through so many verification processes. Semester exam in each end of semester and 2 internal exams conducted by the college before semester exam. We write exam in almost every month. Academics help in so many ways. Practical sessions and lab help us to understand real-world essentiality of things.

The year wise fee is Rs. 9,560.We need to pay almost Rs. 25,000 during admission process as PTA, Placement cell, bus fee and so on. Special discounts for SC/ST and OEC students. Lot of scholarships are available for students including both government and private sector. One example is E-grands by Kerala government.

Faculty members are highly qualified. Most of the facilities own PhD. Most of them are coming from IITs and NITs. Other facilities coming from CET Trivandrum. Method of teaching is through PPTs and group discussions. They always give assignment and works for us. They are capable of solving problems like logical problems. Our class has 2 class advisors who take of the class. They are friendly we can ask any doubt at any time.

Placement cell is very active. Most of placements in colleges are through campus drive. Companies like L&T, IBM are major recruiters. Highest package is 12 LPA packages and lowest is 3 LPA.

Yes, college offers hostel. Girls have 2 government hostels inside college area. Boy’s hostels are located in Painavu and Cheruthoni but they have college bus facility. Almost 250 girls are in one hostel. Food quality is okay doing expect much. Timing girls and boys is 9:30 PM.

Infrastructure of Government Engineering College is ok. 5 departments are present here. Campus size is 22 acres and is situated in township of Idukki. Classrooms are well occupied with modern infrastructure. All the departments have separate libraries and a large common library is present in administrative block. Like other colleges, we have all labs and workshops. Canteen is situated near administrative block. Sports are highly good at here. Idukki Medical College is situated in 5 KM away from college for emergency cases. Security guards are present in college during day and night. Transport facility is less as we know Idukki is hilly area but bus services are available. My favorite thing is climate and a lot of place to explore.

Overall campus life is average. College is not so crowded. There are so many clubs like IEEE, IEDC, Space club, and woman's clubs so on. We can take membership through interviews and other procedures. College conducts so many workshops and competitions for students. Arts fest and sports fest are present. Campus life is average when compared to other colleges. College experience me how to survive anywhere. Social life in here is okay as we have the freedom to do anything inside the rules.
