Government Engineering College Idukki is one of the only 9 Government Colleges in Kerala. So, the college has high value in term of reputation. College is situated in Painavu which is a mountain area with cold and foggy climate most of the time. College itself is situated on top of hill. The locality is full of greenery and very beautiful environment. College has average lab facilities, library and good infrastructure. Most of the faculty has good knowledge in their field. You can enjoy your campus life if you study in this college there are several events conducted every year like national level intercollegiate tech fest Advaya etc. Since the college is situated in hilly area nearby town is 9km away, small town with bank, hotel bakery and stationary shop is available about 1.5km away. Student politics is very active in the college, and it has both negative and positive impact on keeping the college name. Positive is they are the conducting several events yearly and also, they also participate in several social welfare activities. Negative is they force other students to follow their politics and oppose others political parties even physically. But it doesn't affect normal students without any politics for his studies and campus Life. Campus is not suitable for students active in sports college only have 5s football ground, which actually not a ground just soil land. Overall campus is very good I will recommend for campus life and hostel life and the environment.

Academic is average. Students have won several Hackthon and projects competitions. Library is good I would say. Attendance and assignment are mandatory for getting marks. During my studies some department had University rank holders in campus. So, if you are focused you can get good marks. Fees and rent are very less compared to other colleges.

Faculty is average. Half of faculty has good knowledge in the field, and they are supportive for doing practical projects and participate in Hackthon and other project competition. Some of the faculty is not permanent and only contract based, so they may lack experience. Tutors don't force to come to college. You can attend if you want but just make sure 75% attendance at the time of exams.

Placement is average in college, but good compared to other colleges in Kerala. They have an active placement team. Most of the jobs are from IT field and some from electronic field. Job for mechanical field is very rare. I got 2 offer letters at the time even though I had 4 supplies at the time of interview. But I cleared them by final exam and joined one of the jobs. It was for embedded s/w developer role.

90% of the students are hostlers. College has several hostels available for both ladies and gents. Private hostels are also available in nearby town cheruthoni. College hostels are cheaper and food price is also lesser compared to other. Separate hostels are available for first and second years to avoid any ragging issues. Each college hostels have cook and food items are planned according to the students need.

Infrastructure is good college have mainly 3 large building. Lab facilities are also good. But college has no college ground, only basketball and volleyball court available. Campus has a small gym which student can use during morning or evening. College bus facility available to nearby towns and hostels.

Campus is very active throughout the year with several events like national level intercollegiate techfest named advaya, cultural fests, sport fest, college day, ponpulari (freshers' day), onam fest etc. Most of the students are a hostler so college is active with such events. Micro viewpoint is a nearby viewpoint on top of the hill in which college is situated. We used to go there regularly for birthday parties or just to feel the atmosphere and enjoy with friends. Most of the time college will be covered in Fogg and rainy and cold. It is very. Good environment for students. Also, there are so many good spots to visit nearby college like Idukki dam, hill view park, Munnar, vagamon, ramakalmedu, etc.
