SSE Pune: Affordable Fees, Quality Education

Symbiosis School of Economics is located in the heart of Pune city and is surrounded by other prestigious educational colleges. It is a great choice because of its excellent program structure. The fee structure for academic and non-academic facilities is fair and reasonable. I chose this college because it is the best place to study Economics as it offers research opportunities along with the right guidance. I decided to enrol in this college after communicating with the alumni and faculty members here. Even though the infrastructure is small as compared to other colleges, the quality of education and overall course curriculum makes it a top choice for completing UG degree. The campus life at the college is interactive and helps students achieve their highest potential.

I pursued B.Sc (Hons.) in Economics here because it would help me learn something that can impact the real world. After three years, it turns out to be true. Whatever I have studied at the college will be useful in either at my future job or in my personal life. The course structure teaches you to always be on your toes and work hard for getting the desired GPA. The entry requirements for this course include obtaining minimum 50% marks in class 10th & 12th and qualifying the cut-off for the SET examination. The SET exam tests for Quantitative Abilities, English, Logical Reasoning, and General Knowledge. Students also have to pass a personal interview round, which examines their knowledge in Economics and related subjects along with general knowledge about the world affairs. The exam pattern followed at the college includes internal exams based on the number of credits and a final external exam. For example, a 4-credit course includes 4 components like integrated learning component, evaluation tests, presentations, and reports for a total of 40 marks along with an external exam of 60 marks. The course prepares the students for various job roles at once.

For my course, the semester-wise fees ranges from Rs. 1,80,000 to Rs. 2,50,000. For a three year course, the entire fees is Rs. 8,00,000. This includes a refundable deposit is of Rs. 20,000. The college offers scholarships to Maharashtra domicile students. The college doesn’t have any extra charges except in the case of backlog papers where a student has to pay Rs. 1,000 per paper and Rs. 1,000 per semester processing fee for term end examinations. The internal exams do not require any fees in case of backlog papers.

The faculty members at the college are from different backgrounds. Each has their set of specialisation and methods of teaching. The professors prepare presentations and reading materials for theoretical subjects. They solve numerical problems in class on a regular basis so that students get in-depth understanding of the subject. There are projectors and white boards for teaching. The teachers are really approachable but a student has to identify the professor who could align with their problems in terms of expertise to get the best help. I had a great bond with few faculty members who would help me in all kinds of issues.

The infrastructure includes a 5 storied building with a lift. There are cabins for faculties and an academic block for students along with an Accounts department. A total of 9 classrooms, 2 computer labs, 1 multipurpose hall are available at the college which have fully equipped air-conditioning system. There is also a canteen with a variety of food at affordable prices. This was my favourite part about campus. The college has a library and gym. There is also a health centre that conducts regular annual health check-ups. Students can also visit to meet doctors for various fields like dentist, optician, physician or a counsellor.

My overall campus life is satisfactory. The students are welcoming in all societies and clubs. There are 8 clubs for various activities like dance, music, social welfare, literature, computer science, drama, etc. There is no sport ground on campus but the sports council books stadiums for matches in advance. There is also an entrepreneurship cell, Enactus club and 180 DC consulting club. After college hours, the classrooms can be used by the students to practice for events or conduct meetings. The college conducts 2 fests, one is the flagship event which is called ‘Economist of the Year’ and the other one is ‘Niverve’ which is the cultural and sports fests.
