TISS Guwahati: Courses, Fees, and Facilities

The campus is situated at the outskirts of Guwahati city. TISS Guwahati provides us with the administrative block where we can get our official works done along with two types of libraries: one is the Cyber and other one the traditional. Students get full liberty here for their ambitions. Classes happen fully-fledged. Frequent and small events do occur to freshen student's minds. Students from different parts of the country meet here and celebrate each other’s traditions.

The course I am enrolled in is called the Bachelors of Arts in Social Sciences. My main motive to be enrolled was the subjects of interest. I was more inclined towards Political Science along with Economics. I got into this institute through CUET examination. It looks into the marks of your English paper and General test paper. Only 60 seats are available in each year for my course. It conducts end semester exams only and other mode of assessment includes assignments, article reviews, and presentations. We also need to work in fields to fulfill the social science criteria. Due to the NEP course, it is a four-year Bachelor’s degree but it is of the student's choice to further continue till 4th year or not. To be enrolled in the 4th year, you need 75% marks in your overall 3 years of Bachelors. The materials we are provided with to study make the students intellectual along with the activities it do. It provides a great deal of experience and enhances the knowledge quality.

The fee depends on semester as well as your caste background and financial situation. It provides a great deal of financial aid to deprived students. The hostel fee is to be paid every semester of around Rs. 18,000. In addition, the tuition fee varies about odd and even semester and varies from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 40,000. Other than that, the hostellers have to pay the dining hall fee every month of around Rs. 4,557. Students can avail scholarships as well as financial aid if it has a proper income certificate that fulfills their criteria. It can just reduce your hostel/ tuition fee for a semester of which you have applied to.

The qualified faculty members are present in each department as they specialize in their subjects. They are PhD qualified and well experienced in their respective fields. All of them are always keen to resolve our doubts. However, the major issue lies with the fact that there are few number of faculties in each department.

Yes, TISS Guwahati provides hostel facilities. All the hostels are outfitted with basic living amenities. The hostellers are also provided with dining halls. For boys, there are 3 blocks: A, B, & C. In addition, girls reside in D, E, F, and G blocks with 6 floors each. The hostel also has a lift for convenience. The dining hall is a bit far from these blocks (walking distant far from hostel) and is a common dinning for all.

We have few blocks in the campus including admin block, academic block, the hostel, and the dining hall. The admin includes the faculty cabins, library, classrooms along with proper washrooms, and water filter in every floor. The academic block is a bit ahead of the admin block and is designed beautifully. It provides with bigger auditorium like classrooms to encapsulate more amount of students. Many events also occur in those classrooms. The hostels are together built and have a partition among the girls and boys hostel. It is divided into blocks and floors.

Campus life is most of the time very happening. Clubs include the literary society, cultural society, the drama society, E-cell, etc. Students are free to choose and work for any society. Extracurricular activities are generally arranged by the students. Unity leads to the conduction of any event it want. However, permanently it conducts the sports fest, named ‘Ignus’ and a cultural fest, named ‘Vaomalan’. The E-Cell conducts innovate that calls for entrepreneurship opportunities, etc. Other events are also organized with the help of students for fun. Campus life is very liberal.
