Admission in TISS Mumbai's BS Course through CUET

TISS Mumbai is a tier-one institute and a dream for many. It has earned its place in the academic landscape by offering a blend of unique and prospective courses, with qualified faculty and experienced people around. The institute has rejuvenating vibes all around and the campus is pretty big. There are great peers around if you want any genuine guidance or help, they will offer it. I am pursuing BS Analytics and Sustainability Studies. It is a very prospective course considering the changing markets and corporate demands in the fields of Data Science and Sustainability. TISS Mumbai is the one and only institute offering such an interdisciplinary course with holistic approach, all over India. In India the field of Sustainability in the educational institutions is not much discussed or implemented. It is still a nascent field of study. As the job market changes with changing climate, the skill set from this course will equip you with endless opportunities in multiple fields. This is what an interdisciplinary approach in the course is about. Such unique courses in a variety of fields are offered in this institute. The Social Work department is a prominent one here with its great achievements and contributions.

For Bachelor's there are two courses offered in the Institute; BA Social Work and BS Analytics & Sustainability Studies. I will pass out in 2027 with a 4-year degree. My batch is the second batch of this course and currently there are three batches in this course. The intake per batch is only 30 to 35, which means they select very few capable students after CUET result. The academics, honestly, is not as rigorous as other institutes. Mostly we have assignment submissions, where we write structured reports after doing analyses on different topics. Our research and critical thinking skills are shaped throughout the semesters. We have to apply different techniques and ways to do them, which polishes our skills that are in demand in the corporate. The lectures are a bit jumbled and not scheduled for everyday, but again you get more time to focus on other extracurricular activities. You will be exposed to multiple opportunities in the city & you can network with people and also look out for internship or part-time job opportunities.

The fee structure is simple. You can give it twice a year for both the semesters and also apply for an educational loan.

The faculty is generally good and building a good rapport with them is really useful. They do guide you whenever you need any direction or assistance. You can approach them in their offices during the office hours and they will assist you. They teach well, but it varies and is subjective from student to student. The faculty uses, green board, whiteboard, projectors to present PPTs & visual content, and group discussions for teaching. The faculty is also qualified from institutes like, IITs, BHU, and Monash University.

There is not enough placement information for our course currently. We are still working on that. But the institute has some good tie ups with important companies and the Master's Analytics students have been placed at good companies.

The institute gives hostel only for the first year students. After that you have to look for your own accommodation for the remaining years. You will get PGs and rented rooms and apartments around the campus. There are 6 hostels with good facilities for students. The staff is also friendly, not implying that everyone is so.
The hostels are usually clean. Just the toilets are satisfactory but other facilities are really good. The rooms are good but they put you in it with other students, usually 3 to 4 in one room, which is congesting sometimes. But you adjust over the period and if luxury is your goal then don't stay in the hostels. If you are here to study you will have to make slight adjustments and compromises. You will have challenges, but it will teach you the greater lessons for life.

The campus has one library, two dining halls - one in old campus and one in new campus, many classrooms, one amphitheatre, big halls, a huge air conditioned convention centre, and a quadrangle with a verandah where most of the cultural and dance activities happen from November to March every year. The library building is 6 storied, which has 3 floors dedicated to quiet study rooms where you can study, read, and work. Also, the building has a huge collection of academic books, journals, newspapers, and magazines. There is also a big air conditioned conference room on top floor of the library building. The library building is closed only from 6 AM to 9 AM for cleaning and maintenance. Each floor has clean toilets. As for sports, there are two basketball courts - one in new campus and another in old/main campus. There is no football ground, but students play football in the old campus basketball court which has space. Students play football in the evening, almost every day, so you can just join in and play with them. There is also a volleyball court and two badminton courts - one in open space and one in the Gymkhana. The Gym is open in morning and evening which sometimes crowded, but you can go early and workout. There is also a space for yoga and table tennis along with two caroms on the ground floor. There are enough toilets around the campus which are regularly cleaned. The campus has two medical facilities. There are 2 dining halls in both the campuses, which provide meals for 50 rupees or you can take a membership. There is also a stall in the main campus, which provides fast food at pocket-friendly prices and is a go to place for most of the students. The security is friendly and good, but they ask you to register your entry and exit from campus.

You will have an exposure to like-minded people and gain many networks. People are generally helpful, but some get offended easily. So, refrain from passing comments that might put you in trouble. If you want to make friends or hangout, you can hang around in the library, canteen area, and gymkhana. Within a week, I made pretty good friends and connections so, it was not very difficult for me to adapt to the college life.
