A Guide to Admissions in SKFGI Hooghly

I am a 2nd year student at Supreme Knowledge Foundation Group of institutions. my overall experience so far has been very good here. The campus is calm, well maintained and it has a peaceful atmosphere for studying. I chose this college mainly because it has a good reputation in engineering. it provides a decent education at an affordable cost compared to other private colleges. The faculties are really so helpful and supportive. The college organizes various types of fun activities, workshops, events; competitions and fest that help keep the campus life more enjoyable with study. I have also made good friends here, and honestly, college life would not be this fun without them. These areas where the college need to improve like some lab facilities or increasing the placement offer options but overall the college is very good and I'm glad to be here.

I am currently studying B. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning because I was interested in computer science during 12th class of my study because of the subject syllabus, programming, and the software development. I chose AIML because of my great interest in AI technology that is growing fast with a lot of opportunities in the tech field. The admission process was simple and the eligibility process was clearing the 10+2 examination with Physics, Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/Computer Science/ Computer Application/ Technical vocational subject and English as compulsory subjects. The eligibility criterion for lateral entry is 10th+ 3yr Diploma in relevant field of B.Sc. Degree from any university recognized by UGC with at least 45% (40% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD). I was admitted through my WBJEE rank in CSE (AI&ML). The college is affiliated with Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT). The classes are regular and the course is divided in 8 semesters over 4 years. Exams happen every semester along with internal tests and also laboratory tests. The curriculum is practical and the teachers cover both theoretical and practical concepts relating real-life problems which helps to understand easily. We also get to work on small projects, coding problems etc. that really helps in building practical skills.

The semester-wise fees include tuition fees, library book fees, professional development and training fees and student welfare and extracurricular activities fee. On average, it costs around Rs. 40,000/- to Rs. 50,000/- per semester. There is extra Rs. 1,200 \ included per semester exam behalf of the MAKAUT. The college offers scholarship for deserving students (60% needed per year semester exam), as well as educational loans. According to me, it is fair for the kind of education and support we get.

The faculty is experienced and supportive. Most of them have good qualifications like Post Graduate (PhD) and have industry experience. They explain concepts in a way that is easy to understand for each and everyone. Their teaching includes PowerPoint Presentation, group discussions, board teaching, classroom discussions with students and lab sessions. Faculty members are always approachable and helpful beyond classroom hours and also on phone. HODs are very good and helpful. They often guide students with their study needs like some of us can't able to understand a particular topic, projects, hackathons, internships and many more. To them success of students is one of the greatest points of the institution. The faculties are friendly.

The placement in our college is good. There is a placement cell in our college where the students are prepared for mock interviews, soft skills for job. Our batch is the second batch and the placement of our senior batch has not started yet. However, all the students are provided internship. Around 75% to 80% students are placed from our college. The companies like TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, and Infosys come to our college and provide placement opportunities for 85% to 90% of the students. Basically they are placed into tech companies most of the time.

There are separate hostel facilities for boys and girls in SKFGI Hooghly. The Wi-Fi connection is poor. The students have to buy their own food from the canteen or outside. No cooking is allowed in the hostel. The fees are most probably Rs. 1,300/- per month. After 9 PM, no outside visit is allowed for students. According to me, the condition of the hostels is average and it is better to stay in mess.

The infrastructure of SKFGI Hooghly is good. The campus is peaceful and there is a great environment to study. Wi-Fi connection is very poor. There is library for the students where a huge amount of books is available. It is a quiet place to study and complete assignments. There are 200+ rooms in our college. The seniors are friendly and help us a lot. Food served in canteen is okay not the best. There are also common areas for students to hang out. There is a seminar hall for events and workshops. Sports accessories are available but limited. A maintenance room is available for medical helps. Overall, the infrastructure is good.

Campus life is enjoyable and fun. I have made friends and honestly, without them the campus life would not be much fun. The campus is student-friendly. There are also clubs like music, dance, art, coding, photography, fashion, sports, and more on. Interested anyone can join and participate in various types of events. The college organizes events, cultural programs, fests, seminar throughout the year, almost every month. The campus is ragging free, totally safe for students. Overall, the campus life is enjoyable, not so much hectic at all.
