SUTAMS Trivandrum Offers MBBS through NEET Entrance Exam

My overall experience is good here. I chose this institution mainly because I am from Kerala and that their academic experiences are much better compared to other states in the country. There is also a huge patient load, with a very enthusiastic group of faculty helping the students, that too at such a low amount. To conclude, this institution is way ahead, compared to other government universities in the country.

I chose MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) as my course. MBBS is a very hectic course yet it always manages to give us a minute amount of happiness here and there, especially when we can appreciate a pain relieved face of a patient. The entry requirements include 10+2 PCM, PCB or any equivalent course, along with that NEET scorecard is also required. Admission process is fast and smooth, a minimum NEET rank of 14,000 is required for admission. Exams are conducted every 3-4 months; 2‘sessional’ exams and one model exam. If you have an average of 50% in all three exams, you are eligible to write the final institution exam. If you fail the institution exam, SAY exams are conducted after 3 months of the final exam. There are 3 types of classes held here, one is theory class, where the faculty teach us in lecture halls, second is the practical class, which are taken in labs and third, the most important are clinics, where you have to go to the hospital to attend the class. Here we are taught about the patients in the outpatient department, operation theatres, etc.

Fees are paid year wise. Annual fee is around 7 Lakh excluding hostel fees or any other charges. If you are student in a government institution under SUTAMS Trivandrum, annual fee is around Rs. 30,000/- excluding hostel fees.

Faculties under Kerala Health Institution of SUTAMS Trivandrum are the most, understanding, kind and helpful teachers compared to any other government universities of the country. In my course all the faculties teach us very well. Basically, they teach us using PPTs, chalk and board. Small group discussions are a part of our curriculum, therefore is required to follow that method of teaching as well. Most of the faculties are very well prepared when they come to teach us, they do help us in solving any doubts. One department mostly contains around 10-15 faculties, so there is no deficiency seen. For theory classes, each faculty takes class for around 100 students, in practical classes each faculty takes class for around 20 students and during clinics, each faculty takes classes for around 7- 10 students. They are very approachable, kind hearted and understanding. Also, they do give importance to the mental health of their students very much since they also know how hectic our course can be.

Basically for a student studying MBBS, placements are not required, however it’s very easy to get jobs after the course, with a payment around Rs. 50,000/- to Rs. 70,000/- per month in Kerala. If you are going outside Kerala, it will be around 1 Lakh- 1.2 Lakh per month.

All institutions under this institution provide residential facilities. Each hostel contains around 70 rooms, 3 people per room. Boys and girls hostels are separate.

There is everything available in the institution, which is required by the students. It is a small campus, but includes 2 academic blocks, one hospital present, 4 lecture halls with air conditioning, one canteen, 2 cafes, one library, and one big auditorium. All these are upto mark, which is more than enough for a student.

Campus life at SUTAMS Trivandrum is very hectic that most of the time we all are busy studying. The students union in the institution, who are mostly 3rd year students, conduct most of the functions or fests. 2-3 fests are conducted annually.
