Presidency University Kolkata's UG Course Admissions are through PUBDET

I am a third year student at Presidency University Kolkata. With the experience of all these three years, I can vouch that it’s an overall surreal experience here. The campus undoubtedly is well maintained and has an aesthetic touch. I chose this University because it is one of the oldest in all over Asia. The alumni of this University are some of the well known personalities such as prominent economists, filmmakers, and freedom fighters like Abhijit Banerjee, Amartya Sen, Satyajit Ray, Swami Vivekananda, and Subhash Chandra Bose.

I have enrolled in the B.A History (Hons.) course in this University. History has always been my favorite subject. The department of my course is well known for its high quality teaching methods. There is a yearly admission in this University at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. For admission in the Undergraduate courses, there is an entrance exam called the PUBDET and the same for the Postgraduate courses. The academics of this University is not only limited to the chosen course. Courses from other departments which are market oriented, research based, and foundational are also offered to the students to study alongside to their major course.

The fee per semester for my course is Rs. 1100/- and for the B.Sc courses, the fee per semester is Rs. 1,200/-. The tuition fee is Rs. 900/- and the examination fee is Rs. 200/-. A wide range of scholarships are also available which are funded and supported by the Government of West Bengal. For example, the scholarship amount of the Swami Vivekananda ranges between Rs. 12,000/- to Rs. 60,000/- and for the Kanyashree the amount is more or less than Rs. 25,000/- per year with the option of renewal.

The department offers a wide range of study of historical periods. The Faculty here is quite professional in their teaching methods; they use PPTs for student engagement and internal assessments to keep the students ready for their final term examinations. We also have a mentor who helps the students in times of distress or any academic related problems. The professors are highly qualified and can be approached anytime. I have a good relationship with the professors of my department.

Presidency University also has a placement cell. The cell helps the applicants get placed in good companies, although it is solely an individual's choice. Students who are in their final year, the placement cell have sent various mails regarding placement opportunities.

The University also offers hostel facilities for both girls and the boys. The boys’ hostel is located near the campus while the girls’ hostel is located near Salt Lake. The bus facility is also there, which works three times a day and responsibly drops the students from hostel to the University. The mess food and hostel hygiene is quite good. There are no specific hostel rules or timings for in and out.

As mentioned earlier, the campus is aesthetically pleasing. All the departments are named and there is also a map to guide the students or other guests in the campus. The classrooms are big enough to accommodate a large number of students and many of the classrooms are air-conditioned also. The collection of books in the library is commendable. It offers students not only the academic books but also provides study materials for UPSC, WBPSC, NET, and SET exam.

Overall, the campus life is memorable. The people here are friendly and the bonds which are formed in any University are the best thing a University can offer to its students. The Presidency University also organises two fests which are held twice a year. Students are also engaged in various activities like dance, debate, films, drama, and so on which help in the holistic development of the students.
