GMC Thiruvananthapuram MS Admission is Based on NEET UG Exam

I chose Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram because of it's reputation for patient care. With good clinical exposure and high standards of academics at such affordable cost, this College is preferred by all for both Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate studies. It is one of the oldest Colleges in Kerala with good reputation making it the most preferred Institution to study.

I am currently pursuing MD/MS OBG. I chose this course since I liked this subject and had interest in it during my internship period. The admission is through NEET PG exam. The exams here are conducted at the end of the course by KUHS. The exam level is moderate to difficult. Only top rank students with AIR up to 5000 get seats in this College for this branch, though this may vary within branches. The College has high patient load which is an advantage and helps us in improving our clinical skills. The College offers good academics as compared to other private Colleges.

The fees for the course is only Rs. 85,000/- per annum. This amount includes admission and registration fee along with other additional charges. The College also provides financial aid for SC / ST and OBC category [Rs. 56,000/- per annum].

The faculties in this College are well experienced and they have Graduated from renowned Government Medical Colleges. There are 6 units with about 4 to 6 faculties in each unit. The teaching is done by using PPTs. They have very good clinical and practical knowledge which they have gained over time with experience and teaching. The teacher to student ratio is good. The faculties are very friendly and easily approachable.

Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram provides senior residency of one year after completion of the course. Since the College has high reputation, it is very easy to get job opportunities after completion of the course. Renowned Institutions like Ramachandran, Apollo, Kasturba, and other Government Colleges like MMC will offer job opportunities after the course. The minimum salary package is Rs. 80,000/- per year and it can go up to 1.5 LPA to 2 LPA in good Institutes. The College has an Alumni group which helps the students to get into good Institutes and get placed after the course. Many of my seniors have got good placements with high salary after completing the course in this College.

The College has hostel facilities. The hostel rooms are of triple sharing with common bathrooms. The food is exceptionally good. The hostels are separate for both boys and girls. The mess fee is Rs. 10,000/- per annum. The hostel is open till 11 PM at night. The food timings are from 6 AM to 9 AM in the morning, 12 PM to 3 PM in the afternoon and from 7 PM to 10 PM at night. The hostel fee is Rs. 2,000/- per month. Since it is triple sharing and only common bathroom is available, it is a bit difficult to adjust.

The College has excellent infrastructure. The campus is huge spread over several acres of land. The academic block is where the lectures take place with several departments from non-clinical to all the clinical subjects. The classrooms are huge and well-ventilated with air conditioning. The library is big with wide variety of books. The College has a large cricket ground where tournaments take place. The College also has seminar halls, auditorium, and conference hall for classes and meets. The most favorite place in the College is library, where we can read and gain a lot of knowledge. The security is very tight and the campus is safe for all students and staff working in the College.

The campus life is fun with lots of extracurricular activities. The College is very crowded. There are cultural programs like PG night where tournaments and many extracurricular activities take place. All the festivals like Onam, Pongal, Deepavali, Navratri, and Eid are celebrated, among which Onam is the time where many cultural programs are organised. The overall campus experience is exceptional. The College provides both academics and fun filled life. There are also clubs like KMPGA which organizes these programs and stands for the support of the students in times of need.
