Admission based on CLAT score in B.A.LL.B (Hons.) at NUJS Kolkata

It has been a wonderful experience at West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences Kolkata. Being one of the finest Law Universities of India, it has very high standards. The faculties here are exceptional and competent enough to teach smoothly. All of them are hard-working and helpful. It has been quite challenging to survive the academic pressure, but it is all worth.

I have enrolled in B.A.LL.B course in the year 2023. Since, I belong to village areas, there were no Legal Awareness, and therefore my aim was to be a Lawyer to bring a change to the situation. To get enrolled at the University, one has to clear Common Law Admission Test an All India Entrance Test. The eligibility for this exam is 10+2 in any of the streams with a minimum of 45% for the general category candidates and 40% for the SC / ST / OBC students. There is no upper age limit in this examination. The admission process of the University includes appearing for CLAT Exam, then its counselling, followed by confirmation, payment, admission fees payment and physical document verification process. Exams are conducted in two semesters- Monsoon semester and Winter semester. After every six months, semester exams are conducted by the University. Academics are setup in such a way that students are required to apply their logical thinking abilities to solve the questions in examination.

For my course, there are 10 semesters. The total fee of my course is around Rs. 18,00,000/-. I have to pay approximately Rs. 1,60,000/- for each semester excluding the admission fee charged in the first year of the course. There are no discounts based on the category of the students.

Faculties in the University are excellent. The faculty members have the Doctorate degrees from renowned Foreign and National educational Institutions. Some of the professors use presentation and smart boards to explain the topics in a concise manner. The professors are very well-versed with the subjects they teach, they barely take the help of books to teach students. The entire teaching faculty members are approachable through emails or offline meetings in their chambers. My experience has been great till date with all the professors.

Yes, NUJS Kolkata does have a Placement Cell. Basically, the cell invites the recruiters every year to hire the best eligible students. The University’s administration also conducts numerous seminars and events where partners of the varied firms are invited to share their expectations out of the candidates seeking for placements. Companies like Trilegal, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, etc. visit the University every year for placements purposes. The highest placements secured by students are at Foreign Law Firms where students get packages ranging from 30 LPA to 40 LPA. The lowest packages range from 13 LPA to 14 LPA.

Yes, the University has facilities of separate hostels for both male and female students. There can be more than 500 students accommodated at the boys’ hostels inclusive of single and twin sharing rooms. There are a total of around 600 students residing at the University’s hostels. There is a recreational room at the ground floor of the hostels where facilities like Carrom Board, Table Tennis, and Billiards are available. The mess food is served four times a day, i.e., Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks and Dinner. The food served is hygiene in nature. The hostel and mess fee is around Rs. 32000/- per semester. Students can enter and exit the hostels as per their will. I am having a great hostel experience. It feels like my second home.

Campus of the University is quite small in size. Academic block is accessible for only a certain period of time. There are a total of 3 floors for now and two more floors are under construction which will start to operate soon. Classrooms are neat & clean and are equipped with the facility of air conditioners. The University has every required facility such as library, big auditorium halls, conference halls, and moot court rooms. Library is also opens for 24 hours during exams. Canteen is available where multi-cuisine food options are available to choose from. Security personnel are alert. Transport is also available for 24 hours. Thrice in a week medical officer visit the University. In the middle of the University, there is a mini-ground where all kinds of sports are played, and it also adds to the beauty of the infrastructure. Our academic experience is complemented by the infrastructural facilities here.

Campus Life is somewhat challenging for the first year students. But as time passes by, students are able to adapt to the environment. Overall, my campus life is good. The University has a decent crowd of students. I am not a part of any of the clubs. Every year program such as ‘Invicta- sports event’, ‘Concoction- cultural program’ and others celebrated by the students at the University.
