Gandhi Medical College Secunderabad has 250 Seats for MBBS Course

As a third year MBBS student, I feel I am capable enough to review about Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad. The first year was the most exciting year out of all. The reason I chose this college was its accessibility as it is located in the heart of Hyderabad, very contrasting from other government medical colleges in India. It also has both college campus and hospital attached together functioning smoothly. There are 250 in my course.

I chose MBBS because I was passionate about healthcare and healthcare delivery system. For admission, the candidate must choose PCB, which includes Biology, and must pass 12th standard and need to qualify by attempting exam conducted by NTA. Based on the All India Rank, we may apply for counsellor and take admission in Gandhi Medical College either through State Quota or All India Quota. We usually have 2 internal exams conducted in a year for each subject. Then before finals 2 theory papers (paper-1 & 2), and 1 practical paper is conducted. After that, final exams follow the same format as in pre finals but this time conducted by the University. The exams are not much clinical oriented and can be passed if you prepare seriously right before exams. These are difficult but can be achievable.

In this College, I was enrolled in 2022 batch in MBBS I paid the amounts: For 1st year, it was Rs. 29,000/- , Rs. 28,000/- for 2nd year and 14,000/- for 3rd year. For SC/ST students the amount is reduced by 2,000/- for every year in fee structure. The students usually apply for government funded peas scholarships and the merit students may sometimes sponsored by alumni association.

The faculty usually contains professors with their associate and assistant professors supplemented by senior and junior residents. Usually the professors teach using power point presentation in a decent style. The faculty come from high merit qualified institutions and possesses good knowledge about the subject. The method of teaching includes presentations, interactive sessions, seminars by students and group discussions. Most of the faculty are highly qualified and solve doubts quickly but seem less approachable. For a batch of 250 students there is 1 Head of Department with around 1-2 professors along with 4-5 associate and assistant professors supplemented by around 15 to 20 residents per department. The faculty can be more approachable especially the professors.

There is no concept of placement cell in our college but graduates after their 1-year mandatory internship get good job opportunities outside. The internship helps students to equip to real life hospital work experience. Companies like marrow, prep ladder, PW-MedEd, and many more approach regularly. Usually once a candidate secures a postgraduate seat through NEET PG in a medical college they can earn upto Rs. 1,00,000/- per month as stipend while studying. I expect to get good pay after i pass out from the college.

The college provides attached hostel facility for both boys and girls. Boy’s hostel consists of 2 blocks with ranging from 6-7 people per room in initial years then 1-2 people in final year and internship. There are about 60 hostellers from our batch’s boys. Girl’s hostel also follows the same structure but it consists of 3 blocks with more spacious environment. There are about 50 hostellers from our batch’s girls. Hostel fees as per 2025 are Rs. 23,000/- per year for both boys and girls. The hostel timings are usually minimally restricted and close by 1 AM. I personally am not a hosteller but the hygiene, infrastructure and food can be improved as said by my hostel batch mates.

The college campus is divided into 4 blocks – A, B, C, and D. Each one of them has 4 floors. Each floor consists of 4 blocks with lift facility. The campus offers facilities like library, e-library, and college canteen. There is large auditorium design and a digital auditorium. The food offered in canteen can be better. The Sports club is well maintained with tournaments for cricket, badminton, table tennis, and chess happening on a regular basis. However, it needs funds for good ground maintenance. The medical facilities are available in nearby Gandhi hospital. Security is decent but outsiders can freely roam in the college campus. The college has an outdated design and model with most campus space occupied by parking areas. I like the location of college campus with minimal disturbance though located centre of city. The e-library also feels good initiative. Because of the tools like projectors, presentations are used for teaching, adapting a modern method but still can be improvised.

The campus life is usually very happening with good interactions. The college crowd grows well with each other forming good connections and friends. There is Singing, Dance, Drama, and Sports club in College and I was part of Singing club for a while. Extracurricular activities are minimal to expect usually conducted by students itself during annual events like freshers and fest. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated for 3 days on a grand scale. The campus life is good and can be better if the college administration takes required regulatory upgrades.
