Courses of Institute of Pharmacy Jalpaiguri are Recognised by PCI

The Institute of Pharmacy, Jalpaiguri (IOPJ) is one of the oldest and most respected Government Pharmacy Institutions in India. It is a high impact education but low cost in money. Its massive legacy and experienced faculty create a solid academic foundation, but the aging buildings and limited hostel space reflect its government roots. You will get decent job offers from big companies like Cipla. It is perfect for students who care more about their career than 'Institute life' luxuries.

I chose this Institute because it is a Government Institute and the primary return was its is return of investment. To secure admission, you must have passed 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology as compulsory subjects. You also must have appeared West Bengal joint entrance exam (WBJEE) and if you have good rank, you can be selected. Admission is done through WBJEE counseling. This course follows semester system as per Pharmacy Council Of India (PCI). The good thing is this Institute is next to Jalpaiguri district hospital so it gives massive advantage to students to have real patient interaction and learn dispensing of drugs.

The total fees for the 4-year B.Pharm course is around Rs. 54,000/-, which means for a year, it is Rs. 18,000/- for 1st year & Rs. 12,000/-, for last three years.

Most faculty members are with Ph.D degree in their specialised course. Most of them have good teaching experience. The good thing is that the teachers are very helpful as they are always available for one to one discussions.

There is a Boys’ hostel but it is located around 2-3 KMs away. There are 10 to 15 rooms for students. There is also a common room with TV. Wi-Fi is also available. However, rooms are not separated for senior and junior. 3-beds are present in every room. Hostel charge is only Rs. 100/-, around Rs. 2500/- are meal charges. The food is good.

The campus is situated in Kadamtala area of Jalpaiguri. There are only 3 classrooms as of now with accommodation capacity of 65 to 70 students. Most of the classrooms have traditionally black board. The classrooms also have smart boards. There is a library with 100 seating capacity. A canteen is also present. Public transport is easily available from outside campus.

The campus is in the central location and integration with Jalpaiguri District hospital. The Institute crowd is not so competitive. There is no club but some engagement activities happen like Cricket and Football tournaments. There is also e-gaming tournament, debate competitions, and other programs. Traditional festivals like ‘Saraswati Puja’ are celebrated with great enthusiasm.
