DSNLU Visakhapatnam is State Public University

Overall, the University is satisfactory, if you look at the infrastructure its top notch with air conditioned hostels, academic block, library, study rooms, and mess. I chose DSNLU Visakhapatnam in particular because of its location, it is located in Visakhapatnam and to me this city always felt like home, and the southern style of education appealed to my requirements. We have moot court competitions, mock trials, group discussions, crime scene investigation, drafting competitions, debates, and discussions, arbitration, negotiations, client counselling and other such activities which help in getting a first person view of what one is going to experience in his career and the events prepare you by making you confident and letting you know how to use the resources.

I am currently in my 3rd year of B.A.LL.B. (Hons.). I have enrolled in this course as Law as a study and a profession always fascinated me. I always wanted to help in my family business so going the legal way was the right choice for me. This University’s cutoff has been growing but the SPOT registrations are open in the end, which does take multiple students. The admission process is a quick one with someone always present to help you and it hardly takes 2 hours for the final process after reaching the University, rest of the process stays the same as per CLAT procedure. Annually 4 exams are conducted i.e. 2 per semester, one mid semester (25 marks) and one end semester examination (50 marks) per semester. There is also a project (25 marks) per semester. The level of hardness of the exam paper is moderate to tough but you can score well if you concentrate in classes and cover the day to day coverage.

The fees for an academic year is around Rs. 2,50,000/- (including tuition fees, hostel, library charges, electricity bill, transport facilities, etc.). There is an additional Rs. 46,000/- for mess, however if someone takes an admission through the NRI sponsored category, they will have to pay around Rs. 4,70,000/- per year. The additional mess fees, around Rs. 30,000/- of the charges are refundable once the student graduates, one can also opt out of the mess facilities by applying for a mess exemption but hostel is mandatory for all. Category wise discounts are not available. The students can apply for scholarships, both Central & State Government scholarships and multiple private scholarships are notified by the University whenever available. The scholarship may be full or partial of your fee depending on the annual income and other factors. Hope this clarifies the fee structure part.

Majority of the faculties hold Ph.D degrees, are well qualified and professional. The faculties teach in an interactive method, almost all the classes are a dialogue between the students, and the teachers, the students can approach the teachers every day after class hours for any doubt clarification or consultation regarding their subject. The University has two academic blocks with smart boards in all of them, the teachers teach through ppts, quizzes, discussions, and sometimes even role-play. The teacher student ratio is 1:25. The teachers are extremely understanding and encourage students to approach them, and they are very approachable.

The Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University Visakhapatnam has two cells in the placement aspect the Internship Coordination Centre (ICC) and the Recruitment Coordination Centre (RCC). Students have to do well in academics as well as skill based extra circulars to get a placement from the University, students are placed but they have to create a base themselves. In my opinion, University can do much better in placements. They are growing at a steady pace nonetheless. The RCC and ICC are both student run centres and have the database of multiple companies and firms. They also guide students in making their cvs. Many law firms like Trilegal, Khaitan and Co., Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (LKS), King Stubb, & Kasiva (KSK), Inntl Advocare, AZB Partners, Nishith Desai Associates (NDA), J Sagar and Associates (JSA), Dentons Link Legal, TLH Advocates, Dua Associates, etc. Hire from the University.

The University offers hostels for both girls and boys. The girls have 3 hostel blocks and the boys currently have one hostel block, with the other one in proposal phase. The hostel rooms are twin sharing and comfortable and clean. All the rooms are air-conditioned with locker and wardrobe facilities along with 2 cots and 2 fans. The electricity is never a problem as the University has backup generators, there are solar heaters for hot water and hot water is available almost all the time, the mess food is satisfactory. It offers vegetarian, non- vegetarian, and Jain food facilities. The mess is cleaned thoroughly everyday. The hostel in-timings for the girls are 12 AM and the main gate of the University closes at 9:30 PM for everyone, so no one can go out after 9:30 PM without prior permission, for boys however the hostel curfew does not apply but the gate curfew does, hostels are strict with regular inspections.

The infrastructure is great and maintained. We have two academic blocks, one mess building, 2 girls’ hostels, and a boys’ hostel. Three bathrooms are freshly renovated and buggies and a mini bus are available for moving within the campus, ambulance facilities and a health centre is also available. The hostels have one refrigerator, 6 washing machines per floor, and also 2 washrooms per floor. The indoor sports complex has 3 indoor badminton courts and a unisex gym, along with table tennis tables. We have one basketball courts, two volleyball courts, one Lawn Tennis court, Cricket nets, Football ground, and walking track.

Campus life is usually great. The University has around thousands of students. There are multiple clubs in the University which students can join including a criminal club, a moot court society, debate, clubs, dance, clubs, and cultural clubs, recruitment committees and multiple other clubs are available and these clubs organise many events around the year in which the students can either participate or work as a volunteer. The University also has multiple events like Ugadi, Onam, Holi, Diwali Eid Easter, and Christmas celebrations. The University does allow students to go to other National Law University’s or other Institutions for fests and encourages participation. Overall, the campus life is balanced and people are good, and if you mingle with everyone, your campus life will be better.
