Sri Aurobindo College Morning B.Com Review By Manmeet Pandey

When people talk about DU, they often mention prestigious institutions like Hindu College, St. Stephen's College, Ramjas College, SRCC, or Hansraj. Sri Aurobindo College may not have the same level of reputation, but it is equally commendable in terms of academics and the vibrant atmosphere within DU. For me, the foremost priority was the course itself, followed by the college. Regardless of the specific college I was assigned to, I was thrilled to be a regular student at DU, studying at one of its finest colleges. Allow me to share a few observations I made during my time there, which might assist you in deciding whether this college is the right choice for you. In comparison to the aforementioned colleges, the societies and clubs at Sri Aurobindo were established relatively recently in 2013, just a year before I joined. Consequently, they weren't as active as the societies in other colleges at that time. However, things have changed significantly since then. My sister is currently studying at the same college and has spoken highly of the vibrant societies operating there now. Additionally, numerous exciting developments have taken place within the college. Therefore, one should seriously consider Sri Aurobindo College as a compelling option

In the majority of DU colleges, a minimum attendance requirement of 75% is enforced. Even the most prestigious colleges don't exempt themselves from this rule, let alone our college. It was entirely up to the students whether they wished to attend classes or preferred to receive private tuition in the evenings and prepare independently. However, during internal assessments and pre-university exams, attendance becomes crucial; as those who fail to attend these exams are not issued admit cards for the university exams. Therefore, it is essential to keep these two aspects in mind. If you are confident in your ability to study independently, attending college on a daily basis may not be necessary

The faculty members were exceptional individuals. Apart from their extensive knowledge, they were also incredibly approachable and supportive towards students. Initially, many of us hesitated to seek their guidance, but that was a mistake we should never make. One remarkable aspect of our faculty is their ability to practice what they teach. Almost all of them have had highly successful careers in teaching, and their presence at DU is well-deserved. Once we reached out to them, they generously imparted valuable lessons. Personally, I regret not fully absorbing all that they had to offer, but I urge you not to repeat my oversight if you find yourself in this college.

DU has been placing significant pressure on colleges to secure on-campus placements for their students. However, it has become evident that industries often struggle to find a simple B.Com student who aligns perfectly with their specific requirements. While several PSU companies such as IGL, BHEL, NTPC, and BEL were invited, and they did extend job offers, it should be noted that a majority of these offers came with conditions. To provide a more accurate representation, only approximately 10% of students were successful in securing placements through the campus recruitment process.

Sri Aurobindo College presently lacks a hostel facility. In my batch, the number of non-local students could be counted on one hand. Hence, I believe the college has made a prudent decision by not investing in a non-scalable infrastructure at this stage. Once students from other states become aware of Sri Aurobindo Morning College, it may become feasible to establish a hostel facility. For now, students have the option to reside at the DU hostel, where a recommendation letter from the college is sufficient to secure accommodation. Alternatively, for those uninterested in hostels, there is a wide range of flats and rental properties available in close proximity to the college in Delhi.

While the college may not boast the same scale as St. Stephens or other DU colleges, it efficiently operated in two shifts within its compact campus. Despite having just one block, it encompassed all necessary facilities, including lecture halls, a library hall, a small student zone, and designated spaces for societies to conduct their meetings. Additionally, the college had a versatile playground equipped with volleyball net and a central cricket pitch, which could even be transformed into a ceremony hall for special occasions. One notable highlight of the infrastructure was its prime location in South Delhi, known for being a vibrant hangout zone. Students often frequented popular spots like Hauz Khas Village or Select City Walk for enjoyable outings. However, beyond these aspects, there aren't many exceptional features at the college that warrant further praise.

The college had an impressive crowd that was both diverse and varied. It consisted of individuals with different personalities, including some who were humorous and entertaining, as well as others who were highly intelligent. Upon closer examination, one could find genuinely humble individuals alongside those who flaunted their achievements. Overall, campus life was a blend of people who were skilled at flattering others, cracking jokes, and unfortunately, instances of bullying among juniors. However, it was also a place where numerous achievers thrived and succeeded.
