The American College is located in the center of Madurai. It was started by Christian missionaries during the year 1881. The college is NAAC accredited and an autonomous institution affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. The admission process happens through the mode of online. The college has both aided and self-financed courses. It is considered one of the best colleges for Arts and Science in and around Madurai.

I completed my MA and M.Phil in English Language and Literature in The American College. For joining MA, I attended entrance test and cleared it. The eligibility for joining MA English is 55% and above in the respective bachelor's degree. I am more passionate towards books, novels, journals, articles, so it kind of encouraged me to grow my interest in English. Yes, the course subjects exceed my expectations. Yes, the course is helpful to get any jobs relevant to the degree.

There were around 20 faculty members both from aided and self-financed. There were about 1500+ teaching faculty members. The teachers who taught aided were experienced more than 20 years. The academic qualifications of faculty members were MA, M.Phil, PhD and NET/SET. Yes, the subjects are taught with more clarity.

There were training and placement cell but they were limited only to training-based. There were no placements but once we step out of the college, wherever the American college students went they get placed.

Yes there were three separate hostels. One hostel was for girls and other two were for boys. A total fee of the hostel per year was Rs. 26,000 for accommodation. The quality of the food is good. Wardens are there inside the hostel. CCTV cameras available outside the hostel. Aqua facility is available.

The square feet of the college are over 7200. The buildings are made of red brick in Saracenic style. The classrooms are separate for all the departments and sections. It has the oldest library and the best libraries in the history of India. Each department has its own libraries. The specialty of the best library for English throughout India is in the American college, named SCILET. Playground is there at the end of the college. Canteen and stores are available during college hours. There is a clinic for medical emergency and a place to rest.

The campus life in the college takes back us to our childhood days. It has one of the excellent infrastructures. There are many programs with regard to the welfare of the society. All the Indian festivals are celebrated in a grand manner. Freshmen parties and farewell parties are held every year for incoming and outgoing students.
