The Heritage College B.Sc Review By Amrita Pathak

The Heritage College is certainly a "College with a difference". This college was inaugurated in 2016. Within 3 years the college has shown excellent results in academic and co-curricular as well. I am currently pursuing B.Sc Chemistry Honors (Batch 2021) from this college. I must say the college has helped me a lot, in inculcating different values in life, alongside my education.

The admission process is quite smooth in this college. Applications are available online right after the 12th examination. The submission is also in online mode. Criteria for admission are under the University of Calcutta. I got an email for an interview after the form submission. The word "interview" generally scares everyone! But it's kind of an interactive session here. They asked me about my passion, interests, and reason for choosing this subject. Everything went well and I was all prepared to kick start my college life. On the day of fees payment, the management very cooperatively handled everything. All the other staff was also very cooperative and well mannered. Along with that, the college's enquiry cell is always active and will answer all your queries in no time.

This college focuses on every other thing, BUT AFTER EDUCATION. Degree course demands more focus and hard work. So to help the students in every way possible, this college has a well-planned routine for every course. The routine consists of theoretical and practical classes in equal proportion. Class tests, weekly tests, and mock exams are conducted from time to time. The college conducts regular parent-teacher meetings to share students' performance with parents. Punctuality and discipline are a must in this college. Lectures start on the perfect time and being late can get you in trouble.

Faculties cover the entire syllabus beforehand, giving us ample time for revisions. Adding to all this, there is a separate "Library period" in the timetable of every course. This may sound childish, but believe me, it's not! This "Library period" turns into a "relaxing time" after hectic classes. You can go through some books or do some of your works or can simply sit there silently! I, with my group of friends, used to go through different novels during this time, to relax a bit. Overall, I can say, there is no scope for negligence in any course at this college.

According to me, the best thing about this college is its faculty. For every course, there are well qualified and experienced professors. Along with their qualifications, their friendly nature sets them apart from others. Well, we don't expect the professors to come and ask about our problems right? And generally, we picture an angry man/woman when we hear about professors. But professors here are exceptional and destroy every preoccupied image of professors. They are perfect examples of "friend, philosopher, and guide". We can contact them with our doubts anytime during college hours. Professors also provide us their contact numbers for any need after college hours. Professors here ensure that topics they teach become as easy to understand as it can be. And are always happy to help!

Degree courses generally don't have any placement. But students from courses like economic honors and B.Com honors do get very good placement opportunities. Being a batch of 2021, placement of our batch is due, but the results of the seniors are amazing. Two of the seniors got admission in IIT for M.Sc and Ph.D. One got admitted in BHU and others got commendable percentages. The guidance from our faculty members always shows us the right path for our future which is a kind of "placement" for us.

The campus has 4 hostels for girls and one for boys. The boy's hostel is outside the campus with a transportation facility. Each room can accommodate 2 people and some single rooms are also available. Cleanliness is way below standard here. Washrooms remain dirty almost every day, rooms are not cleaned properly. Dustbins are also not changed daily.

Talking about the quality of food we used to get from the mess, well, I can say it's not great but manageable. But the mess authorities should look after the cleanliness of the mess and quality of the food more seriously. Hostels have lift facilities, but most of the time it's broken. One good thing among all these is an open Wi-Fi connection for all.

Infrastructure in the Heritage College is top-notch. The chemistry lab is very well equipped with all the required instruments and reagents. Some rare instruments are also there to ease the process of practicing. Also, the physics lab and computer lab have all the rare and required pieces of equipment. The college has a lift facility and open Wi-Fi facility for all students and faculties.

The classrooms are neat, clean, and spacious. My college has an AC library with all required books, novels, journals, and magazines. This college also has common rooms for boys and girls with different games equipment.

While scrolling through the website of this college, "Anti-ragging campus" caught my attention. In fact, it was one of the important factors for which I chose this college. The campus is ragging free, several banners and posters are present all over the campus for the same. The whole campus consists of Engineering College, Law College, MBA College, Media College and 3 canteens. The main canteen is the largest of all, with a diverse range of food items at an affordable rate. Another 2 are small but still very pocket friendly.

Several fests are held during several time of the year. The campus is very airy and spacious, making it suitable for walking and relaxing. As I am a hostelite, evening walks give me a sense of relief after a hectic day. Trust me the ambiance will calm your body, especially during the evening times. Also, there is an ashram inside our campus, which holds meditation sessions every Sunday.
