Bengal School of Technology and Management BBA Review By Rajani Patel

BITM (Bengal Institute of Technology & Management) is a relatively new college but in short time have made its mark among the top colleges. The college was established in the year 2009 and has average infrastructure in comparison to its peers. The way to get admission for BBA in this college is your 12th results. The cut off during our time was 78% and it will only increase with time. Since the course was introduced in 2011 and therefore the cut-off as now is relatively low. It’s among the top 50 engineering college in the state and therefore you need to score well only then you can get the admission. For BBA though one can say that it is an unknown commodity as this college introduced BBA later and that is the reason why cut-off is less. Even cut-off is just a formality as back door entries are easily available that is if you can afford that.

This was certainly not my first choice college but I was satisfied with the competitive environment, faculty and what I have noticed is around 40-50% of people get placed as well. I am still studying and not worried about that as of now as I might go for higher studies. Talking about other factors of the college, the campus is beautiful, the students come from decent families and the environment is overall good. The college is located far off from hustle and bustle and therefore one can study peacefully here. Also the college has also the basic facilities and infrastructure too is equipped. The only problem that I had was the uniform. I mean who wears uniform in a college but sadly our college students compulsorily have to wear it. In all the college is decent and to be honest if you have nowhere else to go you can join this college.

The admission process is simple and so are the studies. The course BBA is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology. The classrooms are huge and have proper benches. The blackboards are still old-fashioned but no complaints as teachers are doing a fine job. The syllabus is not lengthy and the course is divided in 6 semesters. All the semesters have 6 subjects and clearing them is important as you are allowed to keep terms only if you have back in 1 theory and 1 practical. Practical sessions which I believe should be frequent are rare. More importance is given to theory sessions.

However, co-circular activities are something which keeps students engaged. Every now and then something or the other is going on from essay competition to sports day to annual cultural program. All year round something or the other keeps students occupied. In all academic wise the college is fine and there’s nothing more than institute can do apart from including some practical sessions.

Faculty is great but the ratio is less. For the entire BBA the number of students is 720 and the number of faculty is 16. All the faculty have a hard time managing the students as they have back to back classes and fatigue factor comes into play because of that. Having said that no complaints with teachers as the classes gets over by 3 pm and are available till 5pm. If one has any doubt one can directly go to them and if the same problem is with many students then extra classes are conducted. The student teachers interaction is common and one can discuss almost anything with them. The coolest set of teachers is what I found in BITM. Thus if the ratio gets better I don’t see any problem in this regard.

All the teachers encourage students to participate in other activities as well and also make sure that students are never overloaded. The syllabus is never pushed by any of the teachers and they take their time and also give students an ample time to clear their concepts. The teaching methods may not be modern but the teachers have made sure that even though this college is located in a small town the college still produces topper students at the university level. All thanks to our incredible faculty.

As mentioned earlier some 40-50% students from BBA do find themselves getting placed in engineering units, power companies, or IT companies. Not any financial institution has visited the campus in my knowledge. However one thing where this college has done well is that some seniors have built a club and off-line jobs are also provided if you inform the club. That club is headed by Avinash Das and he is a nice person. Very easy to talk to and if you have any problem regarding placement the club is always ready to help.

The companies like Accenture, TCS, NTOC, and Tata Motors have been the top recruiters and average placement offer that BBA students get is Rs. 3 lakhs per annum. Hopefully the numbers will surge by the time I am ready for placement.

Hostel is good. There are two hostels that belong to college. Both are in opposite directions as one is boys hostel and one is girls hostel. Most of the students have come from different cities of West Bengal, Orissa, and Bihar and therefore hostel was the need of the hour and college built the hostel in 2010. The building is new and has all the basic facilities.

The hostel fee is Rs. 4000 per month including food. Non-veg and veg food have separate sections and therefore you won’t have problem. The rooms are little small but manageable. Cleaning is done every now and then and the hostel building also has a small playground and a decent parking facility. Rather than looking for accommodation in the city staying in hostel is recommended.

I will have to say that the management has done a fantastic job in building the college. The college can be termed as a garden as it is lush green and gardeners are working day in and day out to make sure the campus stays green. There are 2 buildings in all and one is admin block and 1 is where classes are conducted. Both the buildings are new and well maintained. In the admin block itself there’s a central library and 200 students can be easily accommodated in that. There are some 8-9 labs but all for engineering students our practical classes were held in a room that just had seating facility.

The college also has 4-5 buses on campus that takes you to the city. The college also has a small canteen and if you want you can get seated and bring food from outside and have that in the canteen. Located in a remote town one can’t expect much and thus the facilities provided are good enough. Also there are 2 hostel buildings which are not inside the campus but some 200 metres from the campus. The college location is nearby highway and finding transport sometimes becomes difficult. Also, there’s an auditorium and a playground. Girls are hardly found in the playground as boys keeps it occupied for most of the time. In the entire college infrastructure is good enough and have all the facilities one can ask for.

Campus is nice lush green. Little compact but has all the facilities. I had enjoyed my time at the campus and so do the other students as well. The seniors are interactive and there’s no discrimination as such. No sort of ragging or abusing is entertained inside the college campus and there are cells where you can lodge complaints. Coming from outside I had some issues but once I reached the campus they all gone by.

Teachers, students all are intimidating and never let students fall off the rack. They make sure those students who have come from outside fee home at the campus. The canteen is where we use to spend our evenings. Canteen serves some of the best cookies and coffee. In a nutshell the life at BITM is something I never imagined and therefore I am totally satisfied. If you have got lesser marks and in doubts where should I apply? BITM is the right option for you.
